Under the new legislation proposed in Texas, young Doctor's Note may need to use tanning beds
The annual ritual of Spring Break is in full swing from high school and college students everywhere, even here in Texas. Beaches here in our great state of Texas is a popular destination for young people seeking a week of fun away from their parents and teachers. In preparation, tanning salons are filled with those who want to look like they have gone weeks lounging by the water on the day of arrival. Some lawmakers in the House want to make that effort more difficult tan popular for those under the age of eighteen.
Last Tuesday, the House Committee on Public Health adopted a bill that would require a doctor's note and the presence of a parent for any client under the age of eighteen years is presented in a hall of requesting the use of a tanning bed. The sponsor of the bill, State Rep. Burt Solomons, intends to enact stricter laws on tanning regulations for teenagers in the country. Legislation has strong support from doctors, who warn of the dangers of ultraviolet light used in tanning beds. While teens make up only five percent of tanning clients, salon owners fear that this law would hurt businesses already struggling in an economy.
Under current laws Texas, all under the age of eighteen need permission from a parent. Those who are under sixteen years of age and desire for darker skin should have a presence parents. And young customers only until the age of thirteen need doctor's note.
