Golf Hypnosis leads to success on the Inner Game of Golf
I'm rereading Timothy Gallwey in The Inner Game of Golf again after almost 25 years! It is fascinating, given my background in hypnosis and NLP, now I see why not work for me when I started working with him. This discovery also may help explain that despite the large number of tennis coaches teaching techniques inside game, it seems that very few PGA professionals say teach. I know that is asking for a big bag of emails from those who do - I wonder who they are.
Now, when I started to play golf, like most beginners, I have focused my attention on the development of my golf swing. I was lucky to start with a good swing Professor Colin Christison, who came from Blairgowrie and learned their golf in the picturesque Rosemount Course. He instilled many of the basics and taught me to play enough well to get to 4 disabled in my freshman year and play off 2 handicap for the next decade or so. Colin also took me with him to stand or just watch from inside the ropes when he went to play tournaments. I remember watching him play in the tournament in Stoke Poges Agfa with the legendary Dave Thomas, one of the more golfers in the United Kingdom in 1950 and 1960 winner of many European tournaments, and then design the Brabazon, Derby and PGA National courses at The Belfry and many others. Dave tied for the 1958 British Open at Royal Lytham St Anne's, losing to the legendary Peter Thomson in the playoff. He also finished second to Jack Nicklaus at Muirfield in 1966 and played in four Ryder Cups. Another member was threeball Ian Connelly, who later taught Nick Faldo when he started in golf in Welwyn Garden City. Some experience an 18-year-old, playing out of 4 handicap.
What Colin did not teach me anything about was the mental part of golf. Pros do not teach these things, and in many cases still not now. He gave me every encouragement and always told me what he was doing well with my swing before suggesting some improvements. What a contrast to a later coaches who seemed to delight in focusing on what I was doing wrong before I had a long list changes "to do ..."
Although progress had been made through some very good coaches over the next 15 years and read a library full of books on golf instruction, I was still "trying" to develop a consistent swing when I began to hear about psychology course. One of the first really good books on the subject I found was The Inner Game of Golf.
I read Timothy Gallwey's book from beginning to end is often collapsed. What's more it seemed to work when I remembered to follow the instructions. The problem was that the only time they seemed to work with was consistency on the practice field when I was repeatedly hitting blows without thinking too much about the goal and there was no danger and opponents think. Of course, not working in the practice course, if I was working in one of the ideas that my swing many teachers regularly gave me.
Of course, simply forgot to remember follow the instructions on each stroke, as I was too preoccupied with everything else that was going on and "try" that word again, to keep my swing together.
This "forgetting to remember" The problem seems to apply, at least for me, for all golf psychology books, DVD, CD and MP3 recording I've used since then and I have a library full of them. I am sure that many of these products to work for me if someone would remind me to follow the instructions every time I play a shot, but I have a shopping cart to remember me.
It seems that I am not alone in recognizing this problem, since a number of psychologists golf exercises are designed to help you remember to remember what to do. One of the most creative comes from "Dr. Karl Morris Golf - The Mind Factor" and "Circle Game ", where a circle the hole number in the scorecard after each hole, if you remember all the things I wanted on every shot in round. You know how well you are doing for the number if the circles at the end of the round. The problem is not working and when I challenged him to one of its clinics, Karl rotating said only a few holes per round would be a real sign of progress. It sounded as if he expected me to have success with it in every hole.
So what is my solution? Well, do not be surprised to learn that this is hypnosis, self-hypnosis and unconscious programming courses. Unless seriously ill, you have to remember to perform other tasks unconscious as breathing, controlling the temperature of your body to digest food that has eaten or bicycling, assuming you've learned how. Why not install the things you want to remember how unconscious programming. You can learn to remember in this way for years of constant practice or during the night with hypnosis. With an unconscious approach, do not forget to remember what to do.
