Brake Wheel

Braking techniques
Braking on bends end in one of the best ways to get good times on a track, and it goes without saying that the brake is a useful skill to master for safety sake. There are several braking techniques to be discussed here, taking into account the cars with and without ABS (Anti-lock Braking System).
"How can there be much braking technique? Is surely only a matter of stamping on the pedal and that stopped. "
Well, good braking technique is a compromise between the two following factors:
1. If you locked the front wheels, you lose steering control
2. The point of maximum deceleration is just before the point of wheel lock.
If you likes to experiment with different braking techniques, please do so on a track or on private land where no one will be at risk of being hit!
Remember - It is always best to try to brake hard in a straight line.
A note on the ABS
ABS is a wonderful invention. For quick application pulses the brakes on the wheels lock when detected, it allows both to reduce the speed and maneuverability, automatically. All you have to do is press the brakes hard and funny to see how to get it to stop. In vehicles equipped with ABS, many of the techniques listed here may not be relevant (anything that mentions locking wheels). However, the ABS is not necessarily the fastest way to reach high, but will discuss that in a minute ...
What is the fastest method of slowing?
1 = Threshold braking
2 = locked wheels
3 = ABS
4 = Cadence braking
5 = parachute
Threshold braking (ABS and non ABS-cars)
Threshold braking is the best strategy take for maximum braking performance on tarmac. As indicated above, the point of maximum deceleration was just above the freezing point of the wheels, so it makes sense to try to maintain the brake pressure just before this point. In practice, it is often very difficult to know exactly the point in which the wheels are locked and that many factors are at play, including asphalt conditions, the choice of tires, brake temperature, etc.
By So unless you're a professional racing driver, the best strategy to adopt is best to brake hard, and if you find some wheels are locking, just release the brakes and then reapply the pressure a little less. As you learn how your car behaves in these conditions get better judge the pressure required for deceleration maximum.
locked wheel braking (ABS-cars do not)
Ok, so I locked wheels are not so good to cause delays in the threshold braking technique. However there are situations where it is very difficult to maintain braking without locking the wheels, as in the icy roads.
In this case, sustained wheel lock may not be as bad as you think. As long as you are in the right direction locked wheels will lose time effectively, but remember that you may re-direct. This leads us to the technique that is ....
Prevention braking (ABS-cars do not)
"It So I am on an icy road, going too fast (sorry, but it's a little late for that!), I slammed on the brakes, and am now rushing toward a tree! "
Well, you've been foolish, but not all may be lost. Keep the wheels locked for as long as possible to scrub speed, and while you are doing this, apply a small amount of steering lock (quarter turn is a good starting point). Now, release the brakes gently and you should find that address starts to work again. Maintain the application and release of brakes on the points where appropriate, using small steering movements, or run the risk of understeer or oversteer. This technique works equally well in good conditions at full speed, but in reality only be used as an emergency procedure.
Cadence braking (ABS-cars do not)
Cadence braking is a braking technique for very low grip surfaces, such as an icy road - essentially applying and releasing the brakes in a rhythmic way to achieve a compromise between management and braking. When applying the brakes, the wheels tend to lock, slowing the car, but prevent the address. When you release the brakes to regain steering control and can keep the car pointed in the right direction.
Attempting to use cadence braking on a surface a good grip on the speed will result in the transfer of weight that can unsettle the car, which could produce oversteer - The last thing you need when it comes to turning a corner. It is a technique to adopt for fast driving on good grip surfaces!
The stopping distance
If you are going to learn a single thing about your car, try to reach the point where you instinctively know what the stopping distance is for different speeds at maximum braking effort. Quoting figures are mostly useless in real life, this is something that should be a split second decision, not a calculation.
