Triathlon ROI: Get faster and spend less
Look around at any triathlon race and you will see that most of the triathletes are not afraid to spend money on their sport. If we think a piece of equipment that will make us faster and give us an advantage over our competitors, most of us probably will buy it. Motorcycle the price of a used vehicle, the most advanced running shoes, wet suits money can buy more dynamic, all those who shave a few seconds or minutes of our race times.
There are new technological advances in the sport every day. Bikes are lighter and more aerodynamic than it was. Costumes are more consistent and resistant to friction, and the shoes are lighter and perform better. You can spend a small fortune trying to have the best team out there, and some do.
Although some teams out there is amazing and can definitely save time in your career, you may not be getting as much return on investment as you could spend your money elsewhere, as with the training or a good workout plan.
For a cyclist, however, could cut a nice bike sometimes minutes by bike, but for the beginner riders average performance improvement is not so dramatic. The advantage of aerodynamics and weight is more dramatic for riders pushing the limits of human performance. For the average Joe, the gains in performance may not be worth the cost.
Buying a high end bike when you are still a beginner is like spending a ton of money on the best wetsuit if you are not a good swimmer. Yes, more expensive suits are more consistent and create less friction in the water, but the performance gains are in reality only visible to swimmers who already has his technique and speed and only has the advantage. If you're just an average swimmer, an entry-level outfit is perfect. I recently bought a brand new Xterra wetsuit for $ 99 sale and I love it. Just look for the agreements and not feel the need to drop over $ 500 in the second best option.
Basically what I'm saying is look for the amount they receive in return for the amount you are paying or "return on investment." Is $ 5,000 for the new triathlon bike is worth the few minutes you can save? What if you invested a little money on some training to increase the efficiency of your pedal stroke, a good bike fit squeeze some extra power out of his legs, and / or a good training plan to become a better rider. What about taking hundreds of dollars you save by not buying a wetsuit avant-garde and invest in some swimming coaching, or maybe some good video analysis, to cut minutes of your time actually swimming. I guarantee that for an average or below average swimmer, a few lessons from coaches bathroom will make it much faster than a wetsuit will be more than an entry level suit.
Do not just throw money at their weaknesses, you have to deal with them in the head. So many times people see our infinity pool and scared when they see the mirror in the bottom of the pool, or our underwater camera. Many are afraid to see themselves swimming, which makes no sense to me. If you know you have bad technique, you should do everything possible to fix it, not spending $ 700 on a wetsuit or a small fortune on a bike and I hope it disappears. Most of the time, its just one or two technical touches that make a big difference in a swimming stroke characters.
If money no choice and you can afford all the best equipment and good training, then do both. But if your funds are limited and have to choose between bike new carbon fiber, or some good quality coaching and a training plan to show your weaknesses, you get more return on your investment with a good training and training at all times.
