Intacs ™ Security
Intacs ™ are clear, thin slices tiny new moons. Are inserted by your eye doctor in the cornea, about two-thirds of the way down there. This incision is made by a laser or a mechanical separator and requires no stitches, and that cures itself. Intacs is a reversible procedure in which (a) a different size of Intacs may be inserted to replace the originals, and (b) Intacs can be removed. Once in the eye, The Intacs are not felt by the person wearing them, and not visible to anyone else.
What to do Intacs
Because Intacs thickness added to the periphery of the cornea, changing the curvature of the cornea, making it flatter. This corrects myopia (nearsightedness) long as not too severe. They are an alternative to LASIK for the correction of myopia, but not often used for this purpose.
The Keratoconus
They are also an excellent treatment for keratoconus. Keratoconus is a condition where the cornea is too thin and weak to maintain its curvature against the pressure inside the eye - the fluid that press outward on the periphery of the eye. It protrudes forward, distorting vision. Intacs right to stand, the restoration of a flatter curve that gives a clearer picture.
After Intacs LASIK or PRK
An unusual problem after laser vision correction is the corneal ectasia. The cornea becomes thinner and irregular in outline and vision deteriorates. Glasses or contact lenses are sometimes useful only for a while, since it is a progressive condition. Intacs can help smooth out irregularities of the cornea.
Intacs Safety Record
As with any surgical procedure, placement a Intacs carries some risk. But because they can be removed, Intacs have an excellent safety record. Its size can be changed, and requires no incisions additional. O can be removed and not replaced. The small incision is located out of sight and can not impair vision.
The FDA approved in 2004 for Intacs keratoconus patients with myopia and astigmatism. Attached are certain limitations to its use, so are not available for:
· Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Any person with an autoimmune disease
• Any person taking certain medications
· Patients with corneal thickness below 449 microns
The FDA also issued several warnings to doctors about the eye patients with certain eye diseases and on techniques for insertion of Intacs. Because the FDA approved Intacs under the humanitarian device exemption, which Phase 3 did not do large studies with thousands of participants. Phase 2 studies were conducted with several hundred participants, but this means that there are some unknowns about effectiveness Intacs long-term security. The investigation was launched at the time of approval and are ongoing.
