A complete life cycle, and Goodbye
In the domestication of animals and taking them into our lives, our homes and our hearts, take responsibility meeting their daily needs. When we asked to be part of our lives, all we can to understand and integrate. In this process, animals gave complete confidence in themselves, and won restrictions. No longer roaming or forage for food, some animals that spend their lives mostly in a barn, kennel, or cage. As we ask of our colleagues, often but not always, made for our convenience. They are the ones that fit into our world, what we think is necessary. Animal companions who live in loving, caring homes, and whose essence is honored, still give something. Chris, an Appaloosa mare, became my partner in the autumn 1987. He won and lost in coming to my house. We have found a balance and raced down the road of our relationship. We have grown into each other partner. On the morning of December 18, 2002 I left my mare Chris. I woke to hear his beating. My heart froze. Chris was 28 with Cushing's disease. Time they had spent together was not long enough. I loved me forever. I tried to think about their needs. In the few hours that we had realized that I had to put aside my pain and with an open heart, fill in your last moments of breath with nothing but love and honor the dying process. I could not do anything else be supported. It was difficult to separate that I was dying at that moment? Looking in the eyes Yes I knew taking on the role of the predator was the only gift he could give. Walking the fine line of balance in two, giving and receiving is a challenge. In all her pain, she had decided she wanted to stay. Again, she was giving so freely of their love. I had to ask your heart and mine if it serves best. The answer was "No" The vet came and said goodbye. His time in this body was gone.
The decision that we made with our own animals in the timing of his time on earth is through training part of our responsibility. Chris left to live and die as their ancestors once did, she could not wander off and die. One chose to become a predator, and release of his pain, his physical condition had not improved. Its giving would have to come at high cost. His death would have been unbearable. For some that is not the case, and are able to die on their own.
From one point of view, our animals gained longer lives. From another perspective, we have begun dying from diseases related with life in our world. There are pros and cons in both directions of arrival at our companions and live in our world. We have created a life away from nature and its cycles.
In our daily lives many of us have become removed from the balance and the cycle of life. We work inside buildings, only to be outdoors on weekends. We access to all types of fruits and vegetables 12 months of the year. We are scared to death, grief and loss. We are no longer tied to the rhythm of nature and earth. The cycle of predator and prey is foreign. We are not part of the food chain. Our role in life and death is not consciously aware of. We have come to believe they are superior in the life cycle process and not part of it. As our animals, so we gave and gained in the development. We are all part of life cycle land, not exceeding it, not separate from, but part of it.
Our animals seen leaving their bodies differently than humans do many. Pets accepted keep closer to the death of their human companions do. Accept, live and die in the balance of nature, and know that they are part of the "cycle of life." With the understanding, and freedom, and acceptance by the care giver, the animal leaves the earth with and from open heart.
When we know in our hearts is the time to say goodbye to our dear friend, is human nature to try to change it, sad and even deny it. I selfishly wanted Chris with me forever. Nobody wants to say farewell. Nobody wants to set aside a best friend, a confidant, a generous colleague. Grief is part of the emotional process. It is part of the cycle
Releasing what is best for us, covering what is best for them, is always an option. Knowing the answer what the option is located in the heart. When it came time for me to say goodbye to Chris, I could have extended, but that would have been for me. But every process of death is different. There are no rules to follow, or the formula for measuring when to let go, or even how to let go. Each situation brings different options.
My mare, Chris, let me know she was grateful I help. This cycle of love could not be broken, could go on forever. Love to you depths of our being mutual, the places we traveled and grew, will always be a part of our spirit. Experienced the purity of love with Chris. It was worth everything.
Each animal in our life brings lessons, challenges, and the purity of his love and spirit. What a gift we give to others and ourselves, when we parted, filled and surrounded by love.
