Stop Safer, faster Stop: a Guide to Car Brakes

Without a braking system, motor vehicles would be impractical to that we use. They help us to stop our vehicles, maintain traction in emergency situations, and if you brake while in a turn, help with that too. But many People can not understand how or what it takes to stop a vehicle + £ 2,000. In the following paragraphs, I will describe the basic components of a system brakes, how it works and how you can improve your braking system.

Although brake systems are highly engineered systems that are designed to safety and reliability, which are fairly easy to understand to know what the components. There are two main types of brakes found on cars and trucks, systems brake disc and disc / drum brake combination systems. Older vehicles will have disc brakes front and drum brakes in the back. Most modern vehicles have disc brakes on all four wheels, so I will focus primarily on that and does not cover drum brakes in this article.

Typical components of a disc brake system are: the pedal, master cylinder, brake hard lines, soft brake lines, brake calipers, brake pads and brake discs. It may also be secondary or slave cylinder and anti-lock brakes (ABS) components as well, but let's forget about those for now. The brake pedal is obviously located inside the vehicle and the master cylinder is mounted on the firewall that is under the hood. When you press the brake pedal, that uses the master cylinder to push brake fluid through the brake lines. The brake lines are connected to the master cylinder and run to the find brake calipers on each wheel. The brake calipers contain anywhere from one to eight pistons in them. Brake fluid forces the pistons to compress the tablets brake disc brake. The brake rotor, also known as brake disc is inserted into the hub that is inserted into the shaft. So the brake pads compress in the rotor and creates much friction, which in turn is slowing down.

Is your car may not stop as before? You need speed and want to ensure that can stop as fast to go? Do you now have the need to tow heavy loads with your truck? Here are some tips to improve brake feel, response and braking distance.

Brake feel can be defined as the feedback system gives the driver brakes. That feel is delivered through the pedal. Things larger than can be done to improve feedback from the brake pedal is better brake fluid and stainless steel brake. All cars sold in the U.S. must have brake fluid DOT 3, which is the standard liquid available in the market, and the number of DOT3 requires a boiling point threshold is met. If you boil the brake fluid, brakes will not work. For most applications, DOT3 is safe and is recommended for the average driver. If you like the discs spirit participate in road races, or just want a better pedal feel, try using a DOT4 brake fluid approved. Must give a firmer pedal and a higher performance, but be careful because DOT4 must be changed more frequently than DOT3, which translates into higher vehicle maintenance costs. You can also install the brake cables of stainless steel, they do not flex as much as the rubber that come standard on most vehicles. Brakeline reducing flex means improved brake feel. Another good option to improve brake feel is a key master cylinder, which further reduces flex brake system.

The brake response is mainly affected by the brake pads and rotors. Some brake pads have more "bite" than others that bite faster respond better, but can be difficult to live with everyday life. Performance pads are a good choice to improve the response, especially if the pads need to be replaced anyway. New brake rotors can also improve the response you get when you press the pedal, but not enough performance brake pads. When rotors really make a difference is when descending a mountain road and are the brakes frequently. New rotors can make your brake pads perform at maximum for extended periods of time due to better cooling and out-gassing technologies.

It is important to realize that they feel Brake and response have almost nothing to do with your stopping distance. How new brake pads, rotors, lines, and fluid can make the driver feel will stop better and safer vehicles, but will do little to help you stop faster. If you want to shorten your stopping distance, the only way really achieve that is with a big brake kit. A big brake kit includes larger diameter rotors, upgraded calipers, and new brake pads. Rotors larger diameter are the key component here because they give the brake system more influence to stop the wheels. Big brake equipment can be expensive and usually require larger wheels to accommodate the larger brakes, but shorter stopping distances are your goal, it's worth the time and investment. I know this is a lot of information to consume, but there is one last thing I think. Your tires are what really slows your car and the amount of grip they have is an important factor in how fast to stop. Be sure to invest in some decent tires to maximize your braking system and to minimize stopping distances.
