Mountain biking in the Portes du Soleil
Have you ever ridden his mountain bike up the mountain? If the majority of riding takes out in the UK, then the answer to this is probably "no." However, this sport was called "mountain bike" for a reason. If you sit on top of a mountain peak in the French Alps, looking across to irregular snowfall Dents du Midi mountains, with a long winding descent of the technical track one in front of you, suddenly everything starts to make sense.
The Portes du Soleil region, northern France in the Alps, has become a mecca for cycling mountain and not without good reason. During the winter months the area is famous for being the largest linked ski resort in the world, but during the summer months is rapidly becoming recognized as the largest lift served mountain bike trail area in the world.
The area offers something for all styles and levels mountain biking. To cross country riders, there are plenty of grueling climbs to challenge their physical condition. For downhill racers, there are a large number issues dedicated downhill from easy to reason. For freeriders, the area really comes into its own with miles and miles of varied terrain including forest track unique technique, parks, bicycle exposed faces rugged north coast and areas of style.
In response to growing demand for mountain bikers all disciplines, many of the resorts in the area have made major investments in infrastructure in mountain biking.
In Switzerland, the resorts The Champ éry;, Val d'Illiez-Les Crosets-Morgins Champoussin and four tracks have a cross, a northern coastal area, a bike park, down 3 courses (Including the infamous World Cup downhill UCI and the UCI 15 km cross-country move.
In Les Gets More on the French side, there's a beginners track downhill in the Grand Park and beginners Cry 2 'MTB parks, and Mini Jump Kid'Zone Park. For the more experienced there is a dirt jump and park freestyle, four-cross track, freeride area "Gibannaz Canyon, down four courses, and 6 among the countries eligible for all riders.
Chatel, located right in the center of the area, has perhaps the largest selection of areas specifically designed for MTB MTB 15 subjects (14 of which are down profile), 5 parts of North Shore, a four-track cross, freeride infamous "The Face" style mountain area, a boy on a cross and a drop zone with jump pit, wall ride, quarter, step ups and downs.
Despite having paths to intermediate and advanced riders crazy, the Portes du Soleil area is also a great place to learn mountain biking, or go riding with young families. There are plenty of places where you can get lifts to the tops of the mountains, and then find your way around the easy routes that do not tend to be too steep or challenging.
One of the reasons why Portes du Soleil has become so popular for mountain biking due to the full extent of the area is an incredible mix of varied terrain, and ensures that the roads will never become too busy. In fact, it is possible to mount each day and do not see the other drivers. Couple this with alpine ski resorts, budget accommodation and replace the glory of the Dents du Midi mountains and the Mont Blanc massif, and it is clear to see why the Portes du Soleil is one of the best mountain biking destinations in the world.
