Families to enjoy holidays in the Warner Springs San Diego
Warner Springs Ranch got its start back when ranch founder John Warner, was given 48 000 square acres only to become a Mexican citizen.
Of course, Warner had a bit of shooting: he had married Anita Gale, who was raised as a room of the soon-to-be governor of California. For a 37-year-old Connecticut native, Warner did well for himself.
small plot of Warner Mexico - known as Valle de San Jose - was renamed Warner Ranch and at the end of 1840, this idyllic stretch of the property became the only inhabited place to stop the wagon trains and stagecoaches Butterfield between New Mexico and Los Angeles. The ranch was located in eastern San Diego County, and once visited by diligence famous travelers, including President Teddy Roosevelt. Grant, and many other notables.
One of the main attractions in those days was the hot mineral springs that were included in Warner's gift from the Mexican government. One can only imagine how good this whirlpool felt by those early days diligence travelers tired after a hard day of fighting Indians or just riding in a rickety car in the washboard road. California Spa Experience had born.
Along the way, an oasis of Warner became known as Warner Springs Ranch and its proximity to Los Angeles - just a hundred miles or so - made it popular with Hollywood stars like Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Gary Cooper, Jean Harlow, Clark Gable, John Wayne and Bing Crosby. Clearly, Warner Springs Ranch had spent test of time, and since then has led to several generations of California families who have grown to enjoy their holiday in Warner Springs.
Coming San Diego and points north, the unit of Warner Springs Ranch takes you through and around the 6000-foot mountain ranges, through high desert plateaus and the winding rivers and streams - which, thanks to the rains this winter, actually have water in them. It's a nice trip away from the bustle of the city and light years distance of the beach experience in Southern California is in a straight line, about 40 miles away.
At the end of the trip is the ranch, located in the foothills of Palomar Mountain. For a complex that offers 240 houses, we noticed on a recent visit that does not seem nearly that expansion of the road. Warner Springs Ranch really is like a small village beside the road that does not offer much of a clue about what's inside this gated community. Once inside, however, we see that there much to explore and do without leaving the farm.
First stop was our adobe house. Obviously built many decades ago, this house includes a living room spacious with high ceilings and a sofa that deployed in a double bed. The thick walls of adobe - Nearly two feet wide measure of the window boxes - keep cool during these units throughout the year, but a stone fireplace was on the list. Adjacent to the living room was a bedroom and bathroom area. None of our unit was particularly elegant and that many would consider more rooms and rustic furniture. But that's part of the charm of visiting a historic ranch.
Right in the center of everything this is the hot springs area, which has a sort of historical flavor. The water is piped to a 100 pool-48-foot where the temperature is maintained at a constant speed of 104. Within minutes of our arrival we were invited to join a dozen other relax and enjoy the soothing waters. This group seemed more civilized than many of desert hot springs we met. Private rooms were changing at the edge of the pool and there was none of the nudity that is often found in mineral springs that are more remote.
Next to the mineral pool is a standard pool of approximately the same size, and heated to between 75 and 85 years degrees all year round. But there is much more to do in Warner Springs Ranch soak or swim - for the active tourist, there are many attractions including a cavalcade 6892 yards par 72 golf course, tennis courts - a professional has the duty to lecture - and another important part of the estate.
Despite not having the opportunity mount during our short visit, there are regular walks along an extensive system of trails, views, each with different over the valley and surrounding mountains. A these paths is the Pacific Crest Trail, where they would set on foot for an afternoon, imagining what it must be like to hike on this road to the Canadian border the way to Mexico. As Arnold would say, the hike was smaller than the girlie-man version of the PCT, but no less beautiful and seemingly remote as only. The advantage, of course, was that he would sleep in our cozy lodge and dine at the resort Anza Dining Room.
The Anza appears to be the social center the locality. As mentioned earlier, generations of Californians have come to Warner Springs Ranch and many of the cottages are privately owned, the promotion of common Travel back to the ranch. Sit down to eat at the Anza and has the feeling that most people in the room are friends or acquaintances holidays. On any given Saturday night is a quiet, romantic dinner - the room is more like a dining room - but the food is prepared by experts, and the option of buffet loads with multiple entries gourmet for less than $ 18.
Anza near the Cantina, a colorful bar in the real adobe where John Warner lived, when he took possession of the ranch. Nightlife unique in the area, the Cantina comes alive with bands and artists on a given Saturday night.
If you are able to stay long, there are many attractions in the area that are adjacent to the farm or driving a short distance. If you always wanted to go up in a glider, Warner Springs Airport is only a mile the ranch. The thermals over the area of finance to provide a significant elevation of the gliders operating in the Warner Springs Airport and weekends, it is not rare to see flight after flight of gliders to the tourists for a quick look at the valley from a plane without an engine. Planners can accommodate two people side by side.
Julian is a historic gold mining town that is less than an hour's drive from Warner Springs. A frequent getaway for residents of San Diego, Julian offers an Old West main street of colorful shops, restaurants and bars in the old days. In summer, sometimes Western shootings took place in the main street.
In fact, Warner Springs and Julian are great bookends for the history of California - a visit to this part of San Diego County will make you wish you had gotten his own bit 48 thousand acres of this magnificent California.

WHERE: Warner Springs is about 90 minutes drive northeast from San Diego, or about two and a half hours southeast of Los Angeles.
WHAT: Warner Springs Ranch is a historic resource, which over the years has provided many vacation memories for many Californians. Today it has become a resort complete with lodging, three restaurants, a spa, golf, horseback riding, tennis, and many more activities.
WHEN: Year-round. While the area may be a bit hot in summer, the weather is generally tempered due to its elevation of 3,000 feet. It gets its share of sunny San Diego County.
WHY: It is a family resort - not too fancy, but are suitable for find plenty of luxury cars parked in mud huts. Many activities on the ranch and nearby to keep you busy, even for periods long holidays.
