Helmet Youth
The youthful idealism is not dead!
I move the images of my friends [MySpace] 'to the center of the screen and what I see, frankly, is a image of the Kingdom of God!
youthful idealism is not dead. It is only less tangible!
Here I was asking what happened to the idealism Vietnam energy days, when young people hoped and dreamed and sang of a better world, when suddenly I discovered that the same spirit of youthful optimism vivo well where you least expect it - integrated into my MySpace page!
As the years have been transmitted by ticks and contemporary youth culture gave birth to quite nothing inspirational in nature, I just come to assume (along with everyone else my age) that the youth of today are simply desperate - lazy and self-obsessed, too busy with their ipods and too bored with their studies, full of themselves and empty ideals, selfish, loud, insensitive, frankly, encouraged and undermotivated, full of potential, but with nowhere to direct it, but I was wrong, and the proof is all there, indelibly etched in the virtual space.
Just look at the messages that have been left for me in my "Friends on MySpace.
Gabriel says: "God bless you in your walk with Christ"
Dennis says: "great smile, live strong, trusting in God "
Raheel says simply: "Be Love!
Even my teenage daughter made a comment: "love your father was pimped myspace ... cool way .. "(OK, that's not so idealistic, but I could not ignore)
In any case, there is another guy on my page that is taking Virtual hugs! " There is an Islamic young girl there, trying to make themselves understood to their non-Islamic. Dozens of young Christians to fill my page with Icons and images and messages of peace and goodwill glib, and it is quite a bit and a little syrupy and over-optimistic, but is not exactly what we need here world right now - A spirit of hope uncontaminated? In fact, when the Lord Jesus told us that everyone had to become like little children, is not that what he had in mind?
I move the images of my "friends" from the center of the screen and what I see, frankly, is an image of the Kingdom of God!
See a great swell of smiling faces - men and women, young and old, black and whilte, some hip and beautiful, some are still shy and beautiful. I see a modest Muslim girl in hijab. I see a tough-looking African American in the old army. There is a Jewish Orthodox do not read their Scriptures, and an orphanage full of kids greeting from Uganda. Through the magic of the Internet, all these characters are sharing smiles and goodwill messages as happily mixed together to each other.
Of course, it is not in the 'real world, and out of MySpace, these people are not really "friends." Even so, the image I see you waving from cyberspace is a picture of what I think the world will become one day, when that big day and glorious dawn, "when the earth is filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. "
Meanwhile, my MySpace page attests to the fact that there is still a vast group of young people out there that are reaching out in love to people even know! And while it may be all a bit virtual at the moment, still, is a wonderful reflection of the light that shines in the darkness
