May: Month Vinegar
"It is better preserved in vinegar than to rot in honey."
- E. Cobham Brewer
Despite of the fine people in Roslyn, South Dakota have an International Vinegar Festival in June, May is the Month of the national reality of vinegar. However, if you come to Roslyn in time will see a heavy fine from village consisting of the Roslyn parade marching band, children dressed as cucumbers, Roslyn Fire (in my opinion - the best part), the such that all municipal mowing lawns (well, he's pretty swell, too), horseback riders, tractors, trucks and tractors still further and Veterans Day County to be dragged by - yes - a John Deere tractor. The festivities also include the crowning of the royal court vinegar (a sour looking lot), cooking demonstrations and food in the nation's only museum vinegar.
Vinegar, from the French translation meaning "Vinegar" can be produced from all kinds of fruits, berries, melons, coconut, honey, beer, maple syrup, potatoes, beets, malt, grains and whey. But the process remains critical unchanged no matter what may be the starting ingredients - first a process of fermentation of sugar into alcohol, and then a second round to go to vinegar. Viola! Acetic acid (aka vinegar) is born.
If rice, red wine, white distilled, apple cider or balsamic age, the overwhelming vinegar essence, most of us, is always the same - sharp, sour and bitter. But compared one to another subtle flavors and not so subtle, are very different and are as varied like fine wine and not so fine.
Vinegar has been around for thousands of years, each faith, it seems, parables references to it, either in Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism or Christianity. When and how their deity or followers responded to the bitter taste of vinegar was then metaphorically used as a symbolic object of life and their situations.
The former ran with the versatility of vinegar, probably about 10,000 years ago. The Babylonians used it as medicine, and also mixed with herbs to flavor your meals. The Romans drank it as a beverage. Cleopatra dissolved pearls in it to prove she could consume a fortune in one meal. (Ladies, please do not try this at home!) Biblical references show how it was used for their healing and relaxing and yet, as recent as World War I, the vinegar is still used to treat wounds in the battlefields.
Susan B. Anthony, known as vinegar "movement Female suffrage was aggressive, enthusiastic, playful, courageous, a fighter, and a woman a bit pointless, showing all the classic features of being full of "piss and vinegar." The first meeting of this term, however, is from 1938 in John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath:
Vinegar? Why am I writing about vinegar? Well. . . not because it is new and strange, or any other form of art. It can not be confused by anything that the state of the art, or try to be the last minute or high technology. But what is, is a staple food very affordable and very safe, eco cleaning that we all familiar with. distilled white vinegar neutralizes alkaline soaps easily, without effort is broken by persistent smells of urine, quickly polished patent leather instantly eliminates static clothes, spotlessly clean mirrors and glass, simply deodorizes the air, effortlessly polished chrome, carefully removes soap scum and hard water stains, reliable, clean your automatic coffee machine drip and in case of trouble, including elevators accidentally spilled white glue. This 10,000 years is a miracle elixir cleaning today!
It says, "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." So a clean and simply love sour things. Store in a sealed container full strength, dilute it 50/50 with water in a recycled spray bottle for everyday use, or the mixture of 1 tablespoon in 1 quart of water in another recycled spray a window cleaner. Never There is a need for refrigeration. Vinegar is eternal life.
Can not find yourself in trouble by allowing Vinegar Month pass. There are 1001 uses for other than a salad dressing - why not invent a way to celebrate 1002 th eco vinegar by itself.
