Handbags - small, medium and large - One size does not fit all
At a recent meeting in the family, my sister asked me why bags could not categorize the size, which means small, medium or large. My first response was that my supplier did not provide that information. But his point was if she was looking for a small handbag, it really did not want to go through the complete product catalog to find what they really wanted. I promised that I would seriously consider the idea (plus I can get extra points for being treated as if it were a customer and not just my sister!)
Before the emergence of Internet commerce, a bag Fashionista went to the store, looked at the handbags and based on their needs for buying the bag of choice. However, a physical store is limited by pure space, and it can not store all possible sizes of each bag or style. The selection of handbags is also at the mercy of the owners tastes. Unless you lived in a cosmopolitan city, where shops were in the thousands, their choice of selection was very limited. Even then the time to visit numerous stores limited their ability to find that "perfect bag."
The Internet has changed all that now. There are numerous sites selling purses, all kinds of colors, styles, designer and designer inspired, all replica handbags with prices ranging from expensive to cheap, high to low. The problem is that sometimes the image shown may not provide sufficient "information" to the Fashionista it uses to determine if this is the right size wallet she wants.
So where I can go from here? If I look at it from the perspective of a client, when you buy online I want to get products that are within my selection criteria immediately. I hate trawling through pages of products without filters to limit search. Just as an e-tailer, why would not offer this same service to my customers? Well, the answer is simple, I and me. Now the challenge will be how easily do the job on my site, as I am the Web Designer for my site and unfortunately, I have a computer geek does the work for me.
