How pointe shoes fit properly?
All trademarks are of different shapes and styles of pointe shoes that are designed for different people and different uses. This is often very confusing for first time buyers, so if possible we all dance to their teacher, or dancing to go along the connection with you. Installers in various stores can range from outstanding to very average, so it's a good idea to get a name of a good installer on the recommendation from someone you trust.
While the person who fits your shoe should check all these things, it's good to know what to look, and feel yourself. The installer can see how the shoe looks from the outside, but only you can feel what is happening inside.
If possible, ask your instructor to accompany you the first time you bring your pointe shoes fitted, so they can check the fit. If you can not go, always check the fit of the shoes with them before sewing them on the tapes, break in the shoe or dance in them. If they get dirty with the use of them around the house, I would not be returned to the store, and can become a very expensive exercise.
Each part of the shoe tip has a name. Try to learn the names of different parts of the shoe before going to the store for the first time. In this way you will know what the installer is talking about if she asks "Is that vamp too high?". There are many sites online that can help with this.
Always treat with the shoe at any padding or "Ay bags" to be used while dancing, and check the shoe on each of the following positions.
A) Check the setting of the box - Foot should be set up, with no toes too flattened to (must be able to lie flat). There should be no bulging of the skin over the top of the shoe on the foot. The top of the box should sit on the skin of the top of your foot. You should be able to slide the tip of his finger in the shoe over toes, right. If the picture is too round to a flat foot, there will be more of a space here. You can flatten the box a little, but also modify width.
B) Take a look at the length of the wings. The wings should come to the side of the big toe joint. If they are too short, the box will pull the finger big toe in on an angle and can cause a bunion to form. If they are too long, can be hard to function properly through the demi-pointe.
C) Check the position of the heel of the shoe. The heel should come Satin 7 / 8 the way to the heel bone. Too high, and you may have problems with attachment insertion of the Achilles tendon. Is very low, they are frustrated with the heel of the shoe jumped and when you rise.
D) Look at the length of the blade, the front the shoe. If the blade is too long to not be able to rise through the demi-pointe effectively. If it is too long fingers kind of yet, you will feel as if falling from the front of the shoe.
E) When plie in a wide seconde position, the foot is in its longer and wider, so it is important to check there is enough space in the shoe to the foot while dancing. Your toes should stay long in the shoe, and just touch the tip of the shoe to the depth of the plie. F) It is important to check the fit of the shoe in an upright position before putting any weight on it. Place the tip of a shoe on the floor with your weight on the other foot. Tap down to check the fit of the box. The foot should be supported in the box and not collapse too. Check the amount of satin in the back of the heel. If the foot has slipped forward in the shoe because the shoe is too wide, there will be more satin. If the top of the foot is bulging out, the picture is too small. Sure that both the big toe and little knuckle joints are supported by the wings. If they are too short the top of the wings cut the line and give a tip ugly shoe.
