The Grey Muzzle Mercy

The sun was setting, and only a few clouds could be seen in the darkening sky orange. Night was often a relief in the final spring day, as the only shelter that could be found during the day was in the tall oaks lining thick gravel road. This particular road, was small, but attached a number of small houses together. The sound that accompanies the road was not just silence, like the birds and crickets could be heard everywhere. It was, however, very quiet. Unlike the usual humidity, the day was cold with elegance. You may feel the beginning of April, but all other signals pointed end of May.
The peace was suddenly broken by the soft sounds of the tires moving along the street. The noise was not heavy enough to be a car moving along the concrete. The wheels were soft, and sounded almost like a whisper as to divide the land on the road.
They belonged to a red bicycle little emphasis on his way slowly up the hill from the busy street. Riding along the bike was a young boy, sandy blond hair protruding from under a helmet colors bright. In the back, lay a heavy pack searching, searching with various patches that decorate its seams children. In particular, a patch was a bright rainbow with the name "Eric" embroidered in white letters crooked.
The boy's eyes were fixated on the road, trying to be as prudent as possible. The sun may have been enough bright as for now, but its light was diminishing with every minute. By the time he got home, it would be almost dark. Keep your eyes on the road. Dad said that many people are injured on bikes when it is dark outside. I have only to make it past the lagoon and through the woods. Then only our hill, and the way. Keep your eyes on the road ...
It was not very good to tell distances, Eric was at least a mile and a half before he would retire in your driveway. It was good though, for he was very young. Like most boys his age, Eric was quite bright, but not very well informed. Without But adorably naive and not yet really aware of how the world worked.
As he pedaled his bicycle through a large hill and beyond a small pond on the side of the sidewalk, suddenly seized the brakes hard. Its wheels were turned slightly at an angle as the bike slowed to a stop quickly, stopping just in front of a small duck in the middle of the road. Eric was almost thrown to the ground, but managed to maintain balance, leaving the duckling in the process.
The duckling was nothing special. It is brown and yellow feathers did nothing to tell Eric if he were a boy or a girl duck, but it was still nice, though. Its beak small and medium closed his eyes made it seem as if the duck was nervous, but for some reason, limping his way to Eric. She smiled brightly as the ball of brown and yellow rubbed against his leg.
"Hey little duck!" He spoke to the creature with a shrill voice, warm sound. It was as if he was talking with a puppy. "Where's the rest of your family?"
Almost answer Eric's question, the duck waddled halfway back to the street, the direction of a bush near the pond. Under the low red branches had a beautiful adult duck, dark brown feathers that adorn his body. Eric supposed to be a girl, because my head was dark green guy was associated with ducks. She was watching four or five other children by her, looking increasingly worried by the sixth wandering along the road.
Despite fears of his mother, shuffling duck back Eric, rubbing against her leg. Eric found himself laughing softly this time.
"Is your mom there duck?"
The adult duck gave a charlatan in response to a question from Eric. He just able to smile in response.
Eric does not seem to mind, though, as the innocent duck followed rubs against her leg.
"You're a cute little duck. "It found talking to him more directly than before. "You know, I have a dog and a cat in my house. Maggie and Oreo. I bet he'd love to play with you."
He looked back in the bush, as the duck mayor had taken a stronger stand. I was not sure if I was imagining the look of concern around its peak or not.
"Go back to your mom ... duck. I think he's worried."
The small bird is rubbed against the last leg of Eric time, then limped to the midway again. Meanwhile, Eric went up to his bike, like the duck gave a last look before changing again under the thick to return with his family. Eric smiled, but the mother duck seemed to have a look of disapproval.
Showing his age, Eric greeted the ducks while pedaling off.
"Goodbye ducks!"

Several minutes, and about a mile and a half later, Eric was down the last slope that leads to road input. calves were tight, and the inside of his thighs was too much pain, but still prodded, standing on the pedals as you climb the hill land that was his driveway.
Once at the top, both tired and a little sweaty, Eric dropped the bike right in front of his porch, and headed the back door. He stopped just before turning the corner, lifting the weight of the backpack from his shoulders. He began to grope through the bag, looking for his key to home. It took a few minutes, but after awkwardly rooting through books disorganized and loose paper, which occupied a small keychain with a black and white cat plastic attached to it. Relieved, he turned the corner, looking for the cat that had inspired their parents to buy the keychain.
"Oreo! Oreo!"
When he approached the door, however, your pet's vision was not as well received as it should have been.
Her beloved cat jumping around on the creaky wooden porch, its so light and graceful steps that barely made a noise. Interested in what could have been playing with, Eric went to get a closer look. Her eyes opened with a slight hint of fear, realizing that it was rush up and down in a small rabbit, a baby rabbit.
Eric could not have said what came upon him in this time. Probably some shock, and possibly a bit so angry Oreo had been doing. Whatever the reason, he immediately ran and threw his back leg, quickly releasing and kick your pet out of the rabbit.
"Go! Oreo Go! Do not hurt him! Do not hurt the bunny!"
Surprisingly, Oreo your search did not end there, even after the coup. Instead, she jumped around Eric and pounced on the helpless holiday last time.
Eric responded by expelling the cat again, tears beginning to stream down his face. Crying the same words as before, his mind was thinking about something too clustered again. It was a chaos of emotions, while angry and sad. The cat was asleep in his bed last night, whistled in disgust before they finally retire to the patio a neighbor.
Eric bowed to the ground, trying frantically to see what damage had Oreo. The rabbit was barely alive, blood dripping from outside the rear. One eye was also badly cut. It moaned softly as he suffered. Eric did not know what to do as he opened the door for help someone.
"Mom, Dad! Anybody home?" Help, I need help! "
No one answered their calls of support. Eric I was scared, and worse, I had no idea what to do. He tried to quiet his own moans, while trying to get his thoughts in order.
Stop being a crybaby. Dad says that only babies cry that way. Maybe the rabbit is not bad.
Still not sure what to do, Eric walked slowly outside to see another unexpected sight before him. A large St. Bernard had made his way to the porch, and groaning with the rabbit. redness of the eyes of the boy soon expanded with a sigh of relief.
"Maggie!" Maggie! " His attention returned briefly to the bunny. "... Is he okay?"
The old dog looked back at the boy crying in front of him with sad eyes. She tilted her head down and began to sniff in the rabbit, while that moaning softly. Eric began to mourn again.
Maggie proceeded to take the rabbit in the mouth gently and slowly limped across the grass. Hopeful, Eric approached with them and when the animal fell into the high ground in the last sun of the day remaining. He opened his mouth, let the rabbit go just as Eric went down with them. Maggie moaned softly wounded animal, and began to lick it gently.
Several minutes later, Eric and the rabbit both had calmed down. Maggie seemed sullen, and suddenly stopped to comfort the little creature. See seemed pitifully, and looked through several seconds long.
"Maggie ... what is wrong? "
Eric's old friend looked at me sadly, then turned his attention to the rabbit, giving it one last lick. Then took the little creature back into its mouth, and stood with him.
"What's wrong ... Maggie ... okay now?"
The Hound of San Bernard turned his head upward, the gray nose glowed in the dark as she threw the rabbit in the air, catching it with his teeth. Rabbit returned whines temporarily followed by a shriek that made the hairs on the arm of Eric stay upright on the edge. I took a moment to realize what your dog was doing, but after the crisis Maggie first came from his mouth, he knew.
"Nooooooo! Nooooooo! NOOO, Let him go! Do not do that! NO! Not hurt!"
Eric began savagely beating his dog, hitting her in the back and trying to force her to neglect the rabbit. Her cries rang in tandem with the cries of bunny rabbits, and the cracks from Maggie's mouth as he chewed the rabbit repeatedly. After a few seconds, the rabbit finally fell silent.
Eric still beat his dog, even after their prey was gone. Maggie continued chewing, more blood sprouting from his mouth. swallow every inch of the rabbit with no time was nothing left to gnaw on, and after a few seconds, Eric finally lost the power to hit your dog. Their screams never lost his energy, however, tears still staining her cheeks.
"No ... why ... why do you have to kill him?" It's not fair ... he was a baby ... a baby ... "
Eric laid down in the grass as the sky turned a darker blue by the minute. She cried several times, unable to process what just happened. To the Like other children, who responded was the only one who could. He cried and cried and cried.
"It's ... not fair ..."
After A moment later, Maggie laid beside him. Supported the gray muzzle Eric shoulder, moaning softly in his shirt. He was calm, but now the silence was not the same as the peace that had preceded it. Now the crickets and birds were accompanied by soft sounds to mourn a child, and his dog doing its best to console him.
