The Road Movie, we've all seen at least one either knowingly or not, and serves as a good tool for the writer or director and show a change in the protagonist in the course of a journey. Take a blank canvas, against which the characters can be disclosed separately from its environment so that films shot in specific places, not always offer.

The road movies tend to follow a definite structure - there is a challenge to be met along the journey, new knowledge and allies are won - and traditionally ends with the protagonist (s) reach their destination changed from the experience or the decision to continue with their journey.

There are literally hundreds of examples of road movies, but definitely some high quality, some well known, others not. Road movies flourished after the Second War 2 with U.S. boom after the war and growing automobility of youth culture. With its roots in spoken and written tales of travel as the Odyssey of Homer the road movie as a genre really took off in the 1960s with the release of the much-loved Easy Rider.

Rider Published in 1969, Easy was a movie road raged in the establishment and documented the rise and fall of the hippie movement. The film explores the landscape of the American counterculture of the late social the sixties. Two bikers, Wyatt and Billy - played by Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper - have smuggled drugs from Mexico to Los Angeles and decided to go to New Orleans in time for Mardi Gras, with the proceeds of the sale of drugs involved in the fuel tank of Wyatt's chopper.

On his journey across America, Wyatt Billy is a hitchhiker and home to the commune where he lives, be thrown in jail only to be released with the help of drunken lawyer George (played by Jack Nicholson) the death of a friend when George is beaten to death when the trio are attacked at night and a whorehouse in New Orleans.

With its appearance in the counterculture America, the use of music and image, Easy Rider was heralded as a masterpiece and helped start the new phase of Hollywood and was later added to the States United Film Registry because it considered that "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."

After two years after Easy Rider, two-lane asphalt took the use of music in the movie walk a little more for his role as James Taylor and Dennis Wilson with Warren Oates and Laurie Bird. The film revolves around two drag racers that live in his 1955 Chevy for a living for local residents as a challenge that comes from a town along Route 66.

Although not a commercial success, Two-Lane Blacktop was a success among critics and has become a cult classic - especially among fans of Route 66 as the film iconic describes the way before it was converted into a state to state. Moreover, the film was also one of the inspirations of Brock Yates to create the Cannonball Run.

Add a new edge to the genre Road Movie, Mel Gibson and announce to the world, Mad Max was the way of the future not so distand as a violent place where was released in 1979. One story of social disintegration, murder and revenge, Mad Max Mel Gibson, the police officer Rockatansky maximum immersed in a battle with Toecutter, leader of a criminal biker gang, which burns partner Max and murders his wife and son.

Becoming the Road Warrior, Max takes matters into his own hands, hunting and killing gang members one by one. Fortunately, the future of the road movie was not dark or dark half as predicted by Mad Max when the next big hit of the genus came in 1987. Far from it. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a classic comedy that also happens to be a classic road movie. The film begins simply enough, All Neal Page (played by Steve Martin) wants to do is get home to his family for Thanksgiving, but is hampered by a canceled flight. Decide on an alternative means Page transport is hampered by the presence of Del Griffith (John Candy).

What follows is a hilarious three days filled with wild goose chase some of the scenes from the classic comedy, there is the scene where two people drive the wrong side of the road and Martin imagines becoming Candy the devil, the infamous "those are not pillows!" revelation, foul-mouthed tirade Steve Martin in the car rental agent, and Neal Del countless scenes where fault every miss-hap.

While it would be easy to dismiss Planes, Trains and Automobiles as a road-movie comedy, is also a big heart. After that all its arguments as a link between the two and they meet and eventually get home (if cliché but it was in the 80s). Then there is the revelation final Del's wife - of which an image is placed at each bedside and motels often speaks - has been dead for eight years and Del has been alone since he leads Neal the opportunity to invite you home for the holidays.

Greeted with critical acclaim upon release, the film has become considered a classic. All the more remarkable given that Martin and Candy still considered low-brow comedy, the director - Huhges John - was known for his teen angst films, and had produced one of the most highly regarded films of the decade.

With less comical nature, but equally poignant, Rain Man was released in 1988 two brothers and continues on his journey across America. Sounds simple enough, but Raymond Babbit, played by an Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman, is a sage and his autistic brother Charlie, one of the best performances of Tom Cruise, has taken without permission.

Finding out that your father has left all his property to a brother billionaires, whose nothing new there, Charlie Babbit takes her brother's care home in an attempt to rescue it for the money he feels he is owed. The problem is that Raymond did not going to fly and so Charlie is forced to drive across country, as Raymond is also contrary to the highways, to Los Angeles in his father's classic car. What follows is a touching story that is the selfish and money driven initially Charlie Babbit develop a relationship with his brother which is built on something more than greed and even becomes protective of his brother.

Rain Man manages to tick all the boxes you need to create a great road movie. The characters need to begin your journey in the same place with a set of destinations in mind, face and overcome the many challenges on the road and arrive at their destination changed for them. In this case, Charlie is no longer driven by money and self-satisfaction, but has learned to cope with the needs of those he loves either his brother or his girlfriend so far forgotten.

There is no sense in putting your characters in a car, motorbike or even on a train if not go anyway, physically and personally.

The road and the journey it has become a metaphor for many ways and hopefully continue to be represented accordingly in the film.
