Lanzarote-perfect outdoor sports resort
The Canary Islands were the dream of the original packages. Long lazy days by the pool get that all over tan. This was the flagship of the British welfare state. Wash everything down with the sun long cool drinks (with alcohol of course). Eating out every night and generally making pigs of themselves in love and barbecues (lashingly) established by tourism representatives.
The dream has become a nightmare. Obesity, heart disease, cancer and arthritis. Most if not all of these conditions are exacerbated or caused by our over indulgences in our increasingly "do less" society.
Now people are getting the message. Gyms are booming, healthful foods menu. Joggers are everywhere ..... and outdoor sports are becoming increasingly popular. God `s of fresh air is the aphrodisiac that we all have to love us themselves.
What better place is there for outdoor activities Lanzarote ? Smal l Although the island is surprisingly empty mainly because the five million visitors a year are crammed into three main seasons, while the rest of the island is virtually deserted. Once outside the main resorts there is a real pleasure to drive in Lanzarote (at least in daylight). There is little traffic in all.This is great if you want a bit of mountain biking. What better view is that in the morning sun from the butt of a great British peddalling happily in the distance? Lanzarote has quiet roads and plenty of off-road experience as well. If you're a bit then unfit to try an electric bike. A clean small engine comes into play when you had enougfh and can easily round genius. Hire then the man on the bicycle in Punta Limones mall White Beach. Too hot to cycle? How about a nice little dive? Sounds good to me. In Lanzarote `s hot water (about 21 F) Diving is very funny. Lanzarote waters are crystal because of its distance out in the Atlantic and the absence of a coastal platform. The waters immediately around title = "lanzarote"> Lanzarote are very deep. Scuba Ok so it isn't for you. How about a little walking, then? The council (local council thats you and me mortals) in his wisdom has produced walking routes to cover most of the island. Twenty four in total and I'm sure there will be more to come.
Lanzarote is the most floor of the Canary Islands so not prone to any vertigo here. However, you can climb up a volcano or two.This is great for two reasons. One, the views from the top.Two, its all downhill after that!. Red Mountain, near Playa Blanca is a good one for beginners. Thirty minutes or less smooth ride to the top and fantastic view of Fuerteventura. Caldera Blanca is a bit more difficult. This is about Soo in the way of Haria. This is the largest Caldera on the island and a good back and forth with Soo and the nearest watering hole.
How about something a little more adventurous? Ok I `ts Famara pop up in the northwest of the island. Here you can get in some surfing or kitesurfing on the beach and largest wind in Lanzarote. Tim's Surf Lanzarote School will show you the ropes for a small fee and even pick you up and drop you to save leggi little! Beginners and surf real dudes can be found Famara in a bit of a hippie enclave. Care at the beach for naturists! NO NO NO I do not mean to see that! I mean to see you fall on them No! Now hows combat some of the real extreme stuff? Where you going?? You do not need to go anywhere. Famara has these cliffs known as El Risco (named, if I ask) rising to 600 meters from the beach. Jeeez i `m not walk there for the view, I` ll get a postcard thank you very much!
It `s ok, we are not walking. We hang gliding! Dead easy .. just run like the clappers with this contraption on the back and bang .. out of going to the right of the ravine and up in the warm rising thermals Lanzarote here. Piece of cake! What do you mean "you do not like cake, come here now!"
