Driving a vehicle and public transport: Which is better?
There has been much controversy over whether it is cheaper to drive your vehicle or using public transport. This question arises especially when gas prices begin to increase. The most obvious comparison would be the price of gas price public transport. If you only use this cost comparison, one finds that the costs are not really different. To demonstrate this I have calculated my own switch in terms of both. If I can drive my car from home to school will cost me about $ 2.85 in accordance with today's gas prices. If you take SEPTA, will cost me around 3.25 U.S. dollars one way. Only looking at these costs lead to believe it's actually cheaper to dive your vehicle. However, other operating costs of related vehicle travel is not taken into account.
According to the Consumer Expenditure Survey of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average costs Vehicle operating a total of approximately 18% of household income. Public transport only amounts to about 1% of household income. Basic operating costs of a vehicle including gas, oil, tire wear etc. There are other potential savings associated with public transport. In the long term costs associated with mileage include related mileage and vehicle depreciation costs related to car accidents and tickets. Also There are special costs such as tolls and parking potential rates. These are all variable costs associated with driving a vehicle. There are also fixed costs incurred with just the vehicle. These costs include your car payment, insurance, public transport etc. only consists of a variable the costs, the rate of transport. Other fixed and variable costs are incurred by the Department of Transportation, not by you.
It may not sound very appealing to many people, but there are many benefits to taking public transport. In recent years, travel by public transport has become much more popular. Public Transit does not run on issues like traffic congestion and accidents are all too often to transport vehicle. It seems to be a trend with public transport use and size of the population of the city. As the population grows, it creates more traffic and public transport becomes more attractive. People realize the greatest opportunities for lower costs and faster travel time to reach your destination. These are factors that people evaluate when decide what type of transport to take. Public transportation is always looking for ways to solve problems and reduce transport costs for vehicles can not. The quality of public transport is also important. Many people prefer to enjoy your holiday comfortably without having to sit in traffic while driving. Therefore the cost is not the only benefit of public transport while driving.
The costs and benefits discussed so far relate mainly to day to-day transport, such as transportation to work or school. In the long run, there is clear evidence that public transportation is a lot cheaper that driving. What happens in the short term? Well, that's when the situation really depends. As mentioned, the costs of making a short trip only evident depends on the price of gas from vehicle will be quite similar to public transport. For a short trip, the choice would not be significant. However, what there's something bigger, like a road trip? When you think about traveling with another person or even the whole family, the cost of public transport would change. Together with the rising cost of public transport would also be increased discomfort when you are no longer yourself. When planning a trip like this, you must take into account miles routes, the number of people you have with you, and discomfort increased public transport would create for you. I know that when going on a family trip that is within a reasonable distance, be much more drive than take public transportation. This type of situation would be more preferential to be based on analysis of savings costs.
After seeing all the costs associated with vehicle ownership and transport, public transport is the most cost-efficient transport in terms of a commuting perspective. This refers to the trip every day that you would make going to work or school that is not within walking distance from their place of residence. small trips, such as going to your local store or the bank would have a significant difference. Transport vehicle may be preferable if you are planning a road trip affect several passengers as the entire family. So what method of transportation is better? Depends on the situation and the factors involved.
