Conflict in Cycling World
The conflict between the International Cycling Association UCI and the sports organizer ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation) has reached the worst. The reason for the impasse by far was the decision of the ASO to start Paris-Nice Tour in March 2008 without the Kazakh Astana-Team due to their doping cases in 2007. At the end of 2006, the ASO decided together with the organizers of RCS and Unipublic-Sports that squads can only participate in their careers with a official invitation. Astana-Team is already the second team to be excluded from this event after ASO did not allow the Swedish Unibet-Squad to participate in the previous year. The World Association UCI disagreed with this decision unjust, since both teams have "License of the UCI ProTour.
The UCI represents over 170 national and 5 continental federations, which represents about 61,500 riders. The UCI was founded with the objective to step for the interests of cycling and to organize the World Cup the various disciplines of cycling. They organized since 2005, for example, the current Pro-Tour, which replaced the Cycle-World Cup. The tour includes several races one day and stage races in the Paris-Nice, Tour also belongs to the last year and also the Tour de France.
Both races were canceled this year of the UCI Pro-Tour, due to disagreements with the organizer of the program. The conflict between the UCI and ASO started already in 2005 when the Tour was held for the first time. Apparently ASO does not respect the authority of the Global Partnership. The race organizer ASO opposed the Pro-Tour, along with the organizers RCS Sport-und Unipublic. They do not see themselves as members of this Tour and would not perform the ceremonial part of the white jersey to the leader of the respective general. The ICU is a nongovernmental organization whose shares are not greedy. UCI President McQuaid believes that for ASO this is your only goal.
The victims of this conflict are the cyclists who being pressured by both sides because of the sanctions. The German cyclist Linus Gerdemann find it totally unacceptable to cyclists affected by the argument and must be submitted punishment for cycling. If the squad not to enter the Paris-Nice race will be excluded from the following Tour de France. On the other hand, if they do participate in this race will be punished from the other side from the UCI said that ASO does not follow international standards. McQuaid said: ASO wants to establish a league of its own. If the teams follow them and start from this race that automatically give moral justification to do so and follow his lead.
