The Everest Region

The Khumbu or Everest region trekking most popular area in Nepal. It would probably be the most popular destination, but it is more difficult to Solu Khumbu than to the Annapurna area. To be closer to Everest, must walk for 10 days or to fly to Lukla, a landing strip for the remote mountains, where flights are notoriously unreliable.

Solu Khumbu is justifiably renowned not only for its proximity to the world's highest mountain (8,848 meters), but also for its Sherpa villages and monasteries. The main objective of an Everest trek is the base camp of Everest at an altitude of about 5340 meters. But you can not see Everest from base camp, so most trekkers climb Kala Pattar, a 5545 meters unpretentious blow on the southern flank of Pumori (7145 meters).

Besides the problem of access, the other major complication of an Everest trek is the high probability of acute mountain sickness (AMS). This potentially fatal disease, commonly known as altitude sickness, is caused by climbing too quickly to a high altitude. Be sure to read the section on mountain sickness in Health and First Aid chapter if you are planning a trip to Everest. If you have symptoms of altitude sickness and can not go to base camp, you can still make a wonderful experience to less ambitious destinations such as Namche Bazaar, the administrative headquarters of the region Khumbu, Khumjung or Thami, more typical Sherpa villages, or Tengpoche Monastery. From Tengpoche you will have an excellent view of Everest and Ama most spectacular neighboour Dablam (6856 meters).

This is the best way to make a trek to Everest. It follows much of the route of the old approach followed by the Everest expeditions from the 1950s through the 70s. It provides a good opportunity to see the densely populated hills half height and splendor of the Khumbu, Everest or in the region. Part of the walk from Jiri to Lukla is often uncrowded, and therefore much better trekking country. From Namche the trip follows the route of Lukla Everest base camp and then flying out from Lukla.

This trekking offers an alternative to the traditional trek to Everest base camp. Upload spent the Sherpa people of Namche Bazaar and Khumjung the Gokyo Valley and Glacier Ngozumpa, the most large in the Himalayas of Nepal. Since Gokyo Ri four 8000-meter peaks (Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu) are visible at the same time. Phortse descent, make a voyage to Pangboche village and up towards Everest Base Camp. The return route passes through Dingboche and Tengpoche monastery before descending the Khumbu Valley to Lukla.

Why Trekking in Nepal

The Himalayas, the abode "of the snows", extends from eastern Assam in India's western Afghanistan. It is a chain of the highest and youngest mountains on earth and covers a region of deep religious and cultural traditions and an amazing diversity of people. A trek in Nepal is a special and rewarding stay in the mountains.

Like New York is not representative of the USA, so Kathmandu is not representative Nepal. If you have the time and energy to walk, do not miss the opportunity to leave Kathmandu and see the spectacular beauty and unique culture of Nepal. Fortunately for the visitor, do not remain only a few roads extending deeply into the hills, so the only real way to visit the remote regions of the kingdom is as slower and more intimate - walking. It takes more time and effort, but the rewards are also greater. Instead of compressing a freeway, racing to the next "point of interest," each step provides new insights and intriguing. You see your day as an entity rather than a few highlights strung by a ribbon of concrete. For the romantic, each step follows the footsteps of Hillary, Tenzing, Herzog and other Himalayan explorers. If you have neither the patience nor the physical energy to visit the mountains of Nepal on foot, a helicopter flight provides a substitute for expensive and unsatisfactory.

Trekking in Nepal will take you through a country that has captured the imagination of mountaineers and explorers from more than 100 years. You will meet people in remote mountain villages whose lifestyle has not changed in generations. Most people trust foreigners. Nepal is one of the few countries that has never been ruled by a foreign power. Many of the values associated with an excursion at home are not as important as during a trip to Nepal. Isolation is traditionally a crucial element of any wilderness experience but in Nepal can not be achieved completely away from people, except for short periods or at high altitudes. Environmental concerns must include the effects of conservation measures in the population rural and economic effects of tourism on indigenous populations. Even traditional national park management should be adapted because there are major population centers within the Sagarmatha (Everest) and Langtang national parks.

Trekking does not mean mountain climbing. While the ascent of a Himalayan peak may be an attraction for some, not necessary to have as a goal to enjoy a walk. As most people are concerned, trekking always refers to walking on trails.

While trekking you will see the great diversity of Nepal. Villages embrace many ethnic groups and cultures. Changes in tropical forest area of the glacier peaks in just 150 km. From the beginning, the peaks of the Himalayas provide one of the highlights of a walk. As your plane approaches such Kathmandu peaks appear to be small clouds on the horizon. The mountains become more defined and seem to reach impossible heights as it approaches and finally landing at the airport Kathmandu Tribhuvan.

During a walk, disappears behind the hills of the Himalayas in Nepal continues, but dominates the northern horizon on each pass. Annapurna Manaslu, Langtang, Gauri Shankar and Everest will become familiar names.
