How to shop for antique furniture

The thrill of the hunt comes with the purchase of antique furniture, but it is vital to consider all the practical considerations when purchasing an item 40 to 50 years of age. Read on as you walk through my shopping list Vintage. Know when to walk and when to grab a deal on the ground is half the battle.
Do you have good bones? This is the first thing to look for when a chair, table catches your eye. Testing out. Do you feel shaky or scratchy? Is it the wooden partition anywhere? Is there obvious changes introduced in the original design? If so, on foot. There are lots of things that can be fixed easily, but usually not one of them the structure one piece is inherent. (Unless it is very practical and have access to a lot of tools). If the structure is intact, but wood is a bit harsh, consider refinishing wood or rubbing with linseed oil.
Fabric: Re-upholstered or leave it? If you find a piece of furniture upholstered I love you, first consider the costs for covering the item again. If the fabric is in good condition, you may be able to make it work with only a good professional cleaning. If it's less than stellar form, you will need to consider re-upholstering the piece. This can cost between $ 60 to retrieve a standard detachable seat for thousands of dollars to reupholster a couch over. Also, consider the cost of quality fabric, as well, ranging from 150/yard $ 25 - $. In general, the seats are a dining room and a solution easier than you could even do it yourself with a staple gun and a little expertise.
Graceful curves. How viewed from the side of the chair or look back? Is the overall design coherent and well executed? It is likely that if the manufacturer paid attention to design details of the piece, the theme is also well done.
Price, rarity. Do your homework on a subject before paying top dollar. If the store has information about the designer, then check out similar items on eBay or Dibs first to get an idea of how often these items come up for bid. As with anything, the rarest of a specific design is the higher premium you pay. Check manufacturers' brands, to ensure authenticity. If you see something written on the label similar to "Eames inspired" Just run! All knock-off inspired screams.
