Carbon Fiber Accessories: You Need Them?

There are many materials used in customizing the car. For a long time, fiber Glass is the material of choice. It is light, moderately strong and can easily be patched or repaired (most times). However, today's technology has proven on new material available for customizing cars. Carbon fiber is the material most currently hot in the single market for custom looks. Many consumers (and tuners) still have questions about this material. What is it? How can be used? Do you really want to spend so much money on it?

First, the carbon fiber is used in a variety of industries, including racing, aerospace, weapons technology and more. This material is incredibly light and has some of the strongest available. A piece of carbon fiber in comparison with a similar size piece of steel is much stronger than the much vaunted metal, not to speak more clearly and rust-proof to boot. So what can be found in the automotive customization market that makes use of carbon fiber? What benefits can receive from using this material?

However, for real tuner parts, carbon fiber body is the Holy Grail. Wing spoilers carbon fiber rocker panels and even entire campaigns are available for those willing to spend the money for them. Does it cost more than carbon fiber? Yes, you will find this material has a much higher price than others materials on the market. For example, you can expect to pay about 2-3 times the price of a carbon fiber hood on a traditional brass bell. Fiberglass hoods are somewhere between the two.

Why is it so expensive material? The material itself is not really the most expensive. Construction methods are the real culprits. Many layers of carbon fiber stick together to make a usable component body. Once the layers have been adhered to each other, the exterior side should be lacquered and polished until it has the smooth appearance that consumers want (carbon fiber is really rough, with a pronounced fabric pattern similar to some fabrics). Without the finishing process, the carbon fiber would not be appropriate for use in automobiles.

However, for those looking for a way to give your car light, but rigid and strong body parts, carbon fiber is the way forward. Whether you choose to add simple touches like a spoiler or a bell, or go whole hog, you find that the car weighs less, provides better strength and can achieve better acceleration and sustained speeds (lightening the car is the best way to improve power and performance).
