It is very obvious that you know a lot about bicycles and the different pieces and parts that go on them. We are just starting out however and we just want a simple bike with simple pedals that are going to function the best for our money. The pedals that you have listed in your article seem very fancy and they all have specific purposes that don't really fit what I am looking for, what do you recommend for the weekend recreational bike? My husband and I are thinking of joining a biking club and we might look at something a little more professional (for lack of a better word) at that time but for now we just need something fun and cheap. I have bookmarked this page though so that I can return at a later date after I have researched the different pedals a little more closely and decide which ones I think will best suit our purposes.

Wow I am so out of touch with this stuff that I looked at those pictures of pedals at the bottom of your blog and couldn't even tell they were pedals for a bike let alone what type of pedal they were. What happened to the pedals they used to put on the old Schwinn bicycles that we rode as kids? I guess that isn't the kind of thing you want on one of these expensive serious biking bicycles is it. The more I learn about bicycling the more I realize that this is something I could get really interested in. Do you have much experience with these bicycling clubs around that get together and travel to some state and bicycle around the trails and such? I was looking into these and thought I would ask if you knew of any. If so please post that in your next post.

I have to think I would prefer clipless pedals, provided that I can have the option of fitting pedals with teeth that will grip the bottom of my cross trainer sneakers. I'm not worried about how any such pedals would feel on bare feet because I never leave the house nor would I ride the bike in bare feet. That's simply not healthy. You could easily catch a fungus or infection. And for those of you who think that you are safe walking the sands of the beach barefoot, think again. Many beaches have hook work parasites in the sand which stems from cats and dogs and even birds who defecate on the sand and leave those types of parasites in the sand. Anyway, before I got caught up on that rant, I'll end with the question, are the pedals easy to replace?

[...] Road bikes are sleek by design. They have thin tires, light frame, and often times, unfortunately, carry a rather large price tag. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some good affordable road bikes available. On the contrary, here is a list of some of the best road bikes under 1000. [...]
