Cycling in Niagara Falls Canada
With more than 150 kilometers (93 miles) target = "_blank" title = "Map Bicycle "paved bicycle paths> and numerous mountain bike, cycling Niagara is probably the most popular destination in Canada.
Best time to ride bikes is the Spring (everything is in bloom) and autumn (leaves are changing colors). Summer can be a little too hot and is always wet.
The most popular section of the bicycle path runs north along the Niagara River from the intersection of Victoria Street Niagara Parkway (5 north km/3.1mi of "falls") to Niagara-on-the-Lake (Lake Ontario). 25 kilometers (15 miles) one way. This is a cycle track paved parallels the Niagara River.
Along this route you will travel through the most scenic Niagara.
The first 8 kilometers (5 miles) is moderate hills. This part of the path is about 50 meters (165 feet) above the river with incredible views overlooking the gorge Niagara River. Sites and attractions include the whirlpool, Niagara Glen, Niagara Parks Golf Course, Botanical Gardens, Conservatory Butterfly, power generating stations, Floral Clock, Queenston / Lewiston International Bridge and Queenston Heights Park / Brock s Monument
Queenston Heights is where you'll find a nasty little hill down about 50 meters (165 feet) to the village of Queenston is a watershed level (as a point of interest this is where "Falls" of 12.5 thousand years ago. He has been eating its way upstream since.)
The village of Queenston is a small town picturesque and a great place to stop for a break. Laura Secord Homestead find here, as Mackenzie Printing.
From Queenston north the terrain is fairly flat for the next 17 kilometers (10.5 miles), where you can enjoy the Niagara Wine Country (wine and fruit).
You can stop at most of the wine estates along this portion of the route in bicycle travel, wine tasting or lunch at one of its restaurants (especially music of California that is, cooking chicken, salads, fresh fruit, etc.) Also There are stalls selling fruit and a few markets where you can get some bottled water, juice or a light snack.
As you near Niagara-on-the-Lake McFarland is the House that is one of the oldest tea rooms in Upper Canada. They serve an excellent meal! And Fort George, a remnant of the War of 1812 between the British and the U.S..
This part of the bike path ends at the old town Niagara-on-the-Lake. Considered the most beautiful city "in Canada" Niagara-on-the-Lake is home to the Shaw Festival, with works by George Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries in three theaters designed specifically for this beautiful place. You will also find luxury homes, manicured gardens, boutiques, bars, a number of expensive restaurants, 300 + B & B and a handful of very expensive hotels Spas /. Well worth a visit for the day!
Total return is about 50 kilometers (31 miles). Allow 5-6 hours to really enjoy it.
This is a bike lane paved hills. We recommend using a hybrid or road bike with at least 7 speeds.
This road is probably suitable for teens or adults in fair or good physical condition. Too far and too long for young children.
