A Guide on How to Adjust Bicycle Seat Height
People often ask what the most suitable saddle height is for cycling. The answer to that question lies within the length of your legs. You would want to cycle in such a way that your legs can fully extend during each cycling stroke.
This would mean that a low saddle height should be avoided at all costs. You need the length when striding for maximum transfer of power. But should you position your saddle? Is it higher or lower?
Of course, you should always start by putting it higher first then lower it gradually afterwards. Set your seat height in such a way that your legs will slightly bend when your feet reach the bottom part of the cycling stroke.
Never sit with a saddle being set too low. This will only hurt your knees for prolonged use. While some people will say that a low saddle height configuration is comfortable, it is only for the short term. Always make it a habit to adjust your seat height before cycling.
Injuries will appear in the long term if you do not adjust your seat properly. We have talked about getting your knees to bend slightly. But the question is, how much to bend? The answer to that question depends on individuals. Even experts have no real answer to this question yet.
But the number one reason for setting it in such a way is that it incorporates most of the major muscles of your legs to work when you cycle. Another tip is to hop on the bike first.
Consequently, place your foot (left or right) on the pedal. Keep in mind that both of your legs should remain touching the ground. Both your feet should be level with the surface of the ground too. Raise the saddle until you notice that your legs bend slightly. Then lock the saddle by tightening the lever.
