The trend towards green living seems to have come to stay with more and more people making life decisions that benefit land and themselves. To prevent the theft of bicycles, many grassroots organizations have emerged and the government has invested in more public shelters (for temporary storage when you're out running errands).

Boulder, Colorado is the fourth bike friendly city in the world and the second American city on the list. What makes Big Boulder bike is the variety of public programs that educate people about bike safety and maintenance, self-protection (using safety vests and equipping your bike with lights), road rules and more.
More 100 kilometers of bicycle paths, Davis, California is # 5 on the list. Davis was one of the first U.S. cities to include bicycle lanes and cycling infrastructure transport. Even voted to eliminate school buses a few years ago! Davis is currently in the process of building a huge underground tunnel Bicycle only run over one of the main roads of the city.
Back in Europe, Sandnes, Norway, is # 6 on the list followed by Trondheim. Both cities were chosen by the Norwegian government as evidence of the cities in 1990 to try to reduce traffic and pollution. It is clear that the program was a success! At # 8 is San Francisco, with about 40,000 people cycle to work regularly.
At # 9 is one of the great capitals of Europe - Berlin. Despite having a population of about 3 million people, Berlin has managed to build 130 km of bike paths and bike around 400,000 people every day (which represents 12% of street traffic)!
Last but not least is beautiful Barcelona in Spain. Every September, Barcelona celebrates Car Free Day and the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week where residents are encouraged to give up cars and motorcycles to choose (or walking or public transport) as their means of transport, and to educate themselves on the eco-friendly, healthy alternative transport. The city designated a "green belt" around the center of the metropolitan city that serves as a bike lane and Barcelona currently has over 3,000 parking spaces for bicycles.
Another notable American cities taking steps to cyclists include Chicago, Ottawa, Tcson, Philadelphia, Austin and Montreal. Local organizations and governments are changing transport landscape in these cities, providing more bike lanes, bike repair classrooms without visibility vests and bicycle lights at night, and resources for people to bike!
