What is Carbon Neutral?
Climate change is rarely out of the news to understand carbon cycle and how to reduce your carbon footprint is important if we want to avoid the effects of global warming.
Many people try to live in a green eco-friendly way, be aware of the need to reduce our carbon footprint and live as carbon neutral as possible. However, some people still find the concept difficult to understand and are not sure of the neutral carbon "actually means.
Most of the energy we use that power and heat our homes, businesses and cars produce carbon dioxide carbon (CO2) as a byproduct. Whether the electricity generated in coal power plants, a gas that is consumed in the boilers, and gasoline and diesel our cars - all products from CO2 as byproducts.
Contrary to popular belief, carbon dioxide is harmless to our health (as opposed Carbon monoxide is a completely different product and not to be confused, since it is a greenhouse gas), we breathe the carbon dioxide we same as a byproduct of burning oxygen in our bodies.
However, carbon dioxide has an effect on the environment and humanity is producing much more CO2 than they are naturally intended, this has caused CO2 levels in the atmosphere increase. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, it just means that it acts as an insulator, trapping heat from sunlight - just as a glass in a greenhouse does.
The Carbon Cycle
Being carbon neutral means that the carbon produced, for example, driving your car, is offset by the elimination of CO2 from the atmosphere. For example, bio-fuels, increasingly used in vehicles as a more organic, while continuing to produce CO2 when traveling by car, is offset by the growth of vegetation that makes the fuel, because when you're growing the biofuel crops will absorb CO2 in the atmosphere and convert it into oxygen.
Trying to maintain carbon neutrality is a difficult task and a daunting prospect for many companies that their firms are invited as carbon neutral as possible. However, with a wide range of eco-friendly products and innovations are being developed all time, it is expected that eventually all going to be able to live a carbon neutral.
