The name of the bike is revealing. Comfort bikes are the result of a happy union between a mountain bike and a road bike. This bike is a cross between the two and is basically meant to give the rider a comfortable ride through open cycle lanes. The operative word is comfort.

Although the concept of comfort bikes first came up in the 1990s, the latest generation of comfort bikes are quite different because thy make use of highly innovative materials and technical systems. Since people who buy comfort bikes are looking for a hassle free ride around town, in the campus or the city, the first things you need to check out are the attachments. Ideally, the best comfort bike should have front and rear lights and carrier racks. You want the bike to carry everything for you without hampering your style or rider comfort.
The second aspect is the design of the bike. Since comfort bikes offer maximum rider comfort, and the first requirement for maximum comfort is rider position, buyers must pay special attention to this. Ideally, the bike must allow the rider to sit up straight so that maximum weight is taken through the saddle and there is relatively less weight on the arms. This protects the back and ensures great comfort.
Also, the frame of the bike must be low enough to allow riders to plant their feet on the ground even when they are seated. This makes it very easy to get on or off the bike. A low slung bike is an excellent buy for those people who suffer from neck or back injuries and those who cannot use traditional road bikes, for whatever reason. Buying the right kind of bike will ensure stability, balance and comfort.
Comfort bikes are fitted with tires that are larger in diameter. For example, most popular comfort bikes have a wheel diameter of 26” – that’s equal to the diameter of a mountain bike. Large wheels add to rider comfort. Other features like suspension forks are also provided to maximize rider comfort.
These days, comfort bikes also have gears. These gears help the rider maneuver all kinds of terrain with a lot of ease and complete balance. Comfort bikes may not breathe the fire and fury of mountain bikes or speed cruisers, but they do have a gentle charm that makes biking a pleasure.
