Astana - not part of the 2008 Giro d'Italia
The well-known professional cyclist road Astana team or AST which is headquartered in Luxembourg, was left out of the first Triple Crown Cycling Race - the Giro d'Italia. The news about the team that are not part of the 21 groups invited to compete in next May was a surprise to the team manager Johan Bruyneel.
This is the result of participation in recent years in the scandal known as case Operation Puerto doping, involving several cyclists, Alexander Vinokourov, who was the team leader before it was withdrawn by his positive doping test at the Tour de France 2007. Vinokourov was a former winner of the Tour of Spain.
The management team has undergone various struggles from the hold of the Pro Tour license, because it belongs the former Liberty Seguros-Würth and now the negative reaction to having the computer as part of the Italian race. "The Giro directors are free to choose. Sorry that. Filing a complaint will not help us. In the coming weeks, we will demonstrate that we still have our place in all big cycling events, " said the Astana team director Johan Bruyneel.
It is understandable that the authorities are trying to Cycling to make a statement on the events that have constant overshadowed the sport, therefore, insist on pursuing those involved and to teach an important lesson. Unfortunately, not all have to be punished by what others have done, but the sport of cycling is supposed to be an example of hard work, integrity and determination, but a true reflection of the sport has been very different showing only fraud, scandals, and easy way to get the crown.
Today, there is certainly a crisis in the world by bike not only as Astana, but Credit Agricole has also been left off the list of participants in the Giro. Nobody really knows what's coming next, but teams are asking shouted a quick get organizers to know the events' word about what is happening and what is next expected to prevent further scandals.
On the other hand, the race organizers and the International Cycling Union have agreed on becoming more selective of those involved in the big annual events, particularly those that have been contaminated by the growing use of unauthorized drugs to improve performance.
