Legal Services Market by defining a new niche

When marketing legal services, general nonspecific and persuade. The same happens when you decide that the legal services you wish to include in your marketing program attorney.

When practiced in various areas of law, its prospects and referral sources is seen as a generalist. Often, I do not remember any particular area of practice. In their minds, the image is blurred.

On the other hand, when the circulation in a narrow area of the law, your prospects and referral sources know exactly what you do. Its image is clear and precise. So even if you practice in a wide area, or offer a wide range of services, you would do well to define its place in strict terms of the prospects and referral sources seen in a specific niche.

The narrower your niche, the easier it is to establish itself as the authority in that niche and that people perceive you, as an expert. In addition, the easier it is for customers, prospects and referral sources to remember exactly what you do.

The closer your place - and the most effective marketing program - the more your practice of law and relax. It is no exaggeration to say that when you focus on a narrow niche, the sky is the limit.

So, how do you "specialize" when you're good at many things - and when you want, you can do many things?

Simple.

When I started in marketing, (long ago), I was overwhelmed with all the skills needed to learn. I thought a person could not know how to write powerful ads, generate publicity, design seminars, create newsletters - and do well.

Now, 30 years later, I see the big picture - the fact that the basic principles apply across the board - and the marketing of view very different from the way I saw it three decades. Today, I know how a person can understand how to create a marketing message powerful - and then deliver that message with a number of different methods.

So today, I use a wide range of tools, including advertising, publicity, seminars, newsletters, tapes, websites, and more. However, these many tools all fall under the framework of Education, a database marketing.

Here's how you can create and benefit from their own unique niche:

Step 1: Determine areas of law in which you want to practice. Want to practice family law? Estate planning? Commercial transactions?

Step 2: Determine the types of customers who want to serve. Want to work with affluent consumers? Business owners? Doctors? Or all customers who need certain types of services?

You can approach your law practice, either from the standpoint of service, ie services that wants to offer. Or the client point of view, ie customers who want to serve. Or a combination of both, providing these types of services to the types of customers. Then enter your customers and service documents, so you can see clearly - in writing - exactly who wants to serve and what you want to do for them. Next:

Step 3: Create a new field. One problem is that lawyers have practice in the areas of law that are nearly identical from a lawyer to the next and from one law firm to the next. If you want a personal injury lawyer - an estate planning attorney - or a lawyer divorce - you can probably find a dozen up and down your city block.

It is true that the generic label helps prospects identify type of lawyer they need. But the generic label also reinforces the perception that all lawyers in a specific field are the same - only because all share the same label.

Do not accept the ground rules set by the market, tradition or other lawyers. Create your own niche. Rise to a new level. After all, if you are investing time and money on marketing, you have every reason to redefine the playing field so it benefits you.

Step 4: Name your niche or area of specialization using fact-oriented, descriptive words. The old marketing adage is that people buy benefits and not features. Still, in appointing its niche title don t use a benefit because it says nothing and arouses suspicion. When I named based education marketing, I wanted a term that clearly describes what I do. I could have called energy marketing, marketing that works!, Bright Marketing - or some other ridiculous combination of words meaning. But instead, I wanted a term that accurately describes my process of marketing about my prospects could relate to and understand. Therefore, the education-based marketing.

Name of place for what it describes what you do as fact and as accurately as possible. At the same time, make sure your new name covers all the services they want to offer. If uses a narrow, often prospects are believed to only provide those services, not realizing that they can and want to provide services outside that narrow area as well. So you want to a place name that gives the impression of a narrow focus, however, is broad enough to include everything you want in the umbrella.

Step 5: Market like crazy. From a competitive standpoint, a new niche is worthless if potential customers do not know Don, we understand and see it as an important competitive advantage. You could be the only lawyer in that place - and the lawyer only the use of the term - but nobody cares if your potential customers do not see why should you hire rather than their competitors. As a result, your new niche must become a key part of your marketing message. Then you need to educate prospects about why a lawyer in your niche - providing the services it offers - is exactly the lawyer your prospects need.

Step 6: Reflect your new niche in all your marketing materials. If you create a powerful niche - and believe in it - then shout from the top of the mountains. All brochures, seminar materials, advertising, publicity and web sites should reinforce the existence and the importance of your niche. Soon, the prospects are seen as a genuine place, as opposed to a term you made up after a bit of wine. SUMMARY: In a sense, marketing, you must focus on one area of law. You are in the strongest position competition by creating their own narrow niche. Make sure your site is large enough to include all the services you provide - but narrow enough so that their perspectives are perceived as an authority in that area.

IMPORTANT: Take your time and make these decisions carefully. Create different terms of their place and ask clients and friends for their reaction. Seeing the names of places and they do not like. See if you have an idea what the name of the place. The name to attach to your niche will likely determine its success or failure. So make this decision slowly carefully, cautiously.

I first wrote the term education-based marketing in 1984. Today, 22 years later, I still use it because (1) that describes exactly what I do, (2) is the only marketing method I use, and (3) my prospects hire me to provide these services. That is the proof of a good niche.

Now develop one for yourself for when marketing legal services, you get a significant advantage over its competitors that also strive for success attorney marketing.
