What is the hair growth cycle?

It is normal to lose 75-100 hairs a day. With male pattern baldness, new hair growth is declining to take the place of the hairs that fall off.

Hair is constantly growing in cycles. These cycles are:

Anagen - This is the cycle of growth in which cells divide and raise the upper portion of the hair bulb, as dead cells. Hair growth at this stage are longer and larger. The anagen cycle is typically run in a period of two to seven years.

During catagen, catagen hair is separated from its source of nutrition and stops hair growth. The follicle begins to shrink and no melanin, which creates hair color was added. The duration of this cycle is usually two to three weeks.

Telogen "During this cycle (ranging in time from one to four months) or the hair falls out or is forced out by a new growth. With a normal head of hair growth cycle starts again at this stage anagen. Each individual hair is completely independent. The anagen phase usually involves between eighty-five percent of ninety-five percent of the total number of hairs on the scalp. The catagen phase typically involves less than one percent of the amount total scalp hair. The telogen cycle consists of five to fifteen percent of total scalp hair.

When you are losing hair due to pattern hair loss, the catagen and telogen phase is not accelerated, but instead, the anagen phase decreases gradually basis with growth hair finer and thinner and shorter until growth also is virtually invisible.
