Rodney Dangerfield

Early Life and Career
Dangerfield was born in Long Island in the city of Babylon, the son of Jewish parents. His father was a vaudeville Phil Roy (Philip Cohen). His ancestors came to America from Hungary. He would later say that his father "never went home, went to look for other children," and that his mother "brought it all wrong."
As a teenager, he began his career writing for comics standup jokes became oneself 19 years under the name Jack Roy. He struggled financially for nine years, at a time to perform as a singing waiter (he was fired), and also works as a diver doing acrobatics before leaving show business to have an aluminum siding sales job to support his wife and family. She later said she was so little known then, "At the time I left, I was the only one who knew I quit!"
In the early 1960s that began to fall be a long way toward rehabilitating his career, still working as a salesman in the day. Came to realize that what he lacked was an "image" well-defined a character on stage that the audience could relate and distinguish it from similar comics.
He took the name Rodney Dangerfield, which had been used as the name of a comic imitation cowboy star Jack Benny on his radio program by at least as early as December 21, 1941 broadcast and later as a pseudonym for Ricky Nelson in the television show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. However, Jack Roy remained his legal name, as he mentions occasionally. During a question and answer session with the audience in the album No Respect Rodney joked that his real name was Percival Sweetwater. [Citation needed]
Carrera surge
Fate intervened on a Sunday night when The Ed Sullivan Show needed last-minute replacement for another act. [When show?] This very popular, live, every week, organized by the influential Sullivan, could make or break a show-business career. The median age, husky Dangerfield, in his monologue pessimistic, was a contrast to the younger, trendier comics usually seen on the Sullivan show, and this alone gave the novelty value. His success was assured when he told his first "no respect" joke: "I get no respect. I played cat and mouse, and not even look for me. Teachers would get notes from parents saying, "Please excuse Johnny for the next 5-to-10 years'" Dangerfield became the surprise hit of the show. Some of the materials Dangerfield was unabashedly silly, but with delivery timing, it hardly mattered. "I was a child until the date of Buffalo," was to be announced. "Why I can not know a girl with normal parents?" Be informed his audience, "I asked my wife," Is there anyone else? She said: "There must be '."
Invariably, the butt of his own jokes, disrespect their parents began almost at birth, then schoolyard taunts by classmates, followed by failure in the world of dating, up insulting his wife.
Finally set as a reliable stand-up comedian, wrote thousands more of these self-deprecating jokes. Dangerfield began leading shows in Las Vegas and made frequent appearances on encore The Ed Sullivan Show. He became a regular on Dean Martin's show, and appeared on The Tonight Show with a total of 35 times.
