About conductive keratoplasty (CK)
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is a non-laser vision correction procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to reshape the contours of your eye. It was originally designed to treat farsightedness (hyperopia) but now also used to treat astigmatism (blurred vision) and presbyopia (gradual loss of near vision).
The procedure
Less invasive than href = "http://www.doctorsforvisualfreedom.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=50&Itemid=65"> LASIK surgery, CK is less than three minutes and is performed in the office. Topical eye drops are placed in the eye to numb it and inserts a speculum to keep the eye open.
With a probe thinner than a human hair, radio waves of low energy are used to reshape the cornea. This is done in a circular pattern, which acts like a belt that "press" and exacerbate the shape of your cornea. By increasing its curvature and altering the way light rays enter to your eye, your near vision can be restored. You will be able to return to work the next day, and you will notice improvement in their vision within a week or so.
Am I a candidate?
You can be a good candidate for CK if you:
- If at least 40 years of age
- It has mild hyperopia (farsigntedness)
- Want to reduce your dependence on reading glasses after developing presbyopia
- Have astigmatism (Blurred vision)
- Had a good distance vision all his life, but now need reading glasses
Clean Lens Exchange (CLE)
Clear Lens Exchange (CLE), also known asRefractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is a surgical procedure designed to give a more focused and eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. CLE is more invasive than CK and is designed for patients with more severe vision. This procedure corrects vision by removing the natural eye lens and replacing it with an artificial one called an intraocular lens (IOL).
Intraocular lenses
In recent years, only a single focus IOL available that was not hard to see when it shifts the focus from distant objects to near objects.
As developed IOL, multifocal lenses and capacity is introduced, allowing you to see objects clearly between distances without losing focus.
Several of the IOL today include:
- Crystalens - This replaces the lens and IOL is inserted into the same tiny ciliary muscles that allow you to change focus to see at different distances. Your natural lens changes its curvature when switching between the distances sharply curved narrow and flat for distance. The Crystalens moves forward and backward to replicate this curve, though never sorry.
- ReZoom - Instead of giving your muscles cillary, this provides acute multifocal IOL design vision and structure. ReZoom is made with five concentric zones, each a different refraction of light entering in the eye of an object.
- ReSTOR - This multifocal IOL is made with a special patented substance called AcrySof ® acrylic. Like ReZoom Lens, ReSTOR has different concentric zones that refract light differently so you can see clearly at all distances.
Am a good candidate?
You can be a good candidate for CLE if you:
- He has over 40 years of age
- Want free of their dependence on glasses or contact lenses
- Have severe myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopia (farsigntedness)
- You myopia severe or hyperopia, as well as early cataracts
- Would you like to treat presbyopia (the progressive loss of vision) with IOL
- Need an alternative to LASIK
