Ogeechee Limes - Pleasant citrus flavor
The shoreline of the Ogeechee River is densely embedded with a little-known fruit tree called Ogeechee Lime Nyssa Ogeechee, which could easily require the attention of the farmers, seeking a secondary crop. The local owners, and fishing on the banks the river, are familiar with this tree that can grow 30-40 feet tall, and in the fall, the leaves and the oval-shaped fruit turn a brilliant scarlet in color. The fruit or berry is about 1-2 inches long and reaches the size of a large kumquat a pleasant acid taste, which is similar to lemons or citrus others. The fruit is used to flavor foods and beverages when the juice is released, or used in preserves and canned items such as jellies and jams for the people local.
Many botanists of the past centuries noted that Ogeechee Limes found growing in colonies with their roots under water, and therefore, it is natural recommended that this tree plantation should be done only in a bog garden. There are trees planted in the Arboretum garden in the coastal plain Station Experimental in Tifton, Georgia who are mature and grow well in well drained soil. These trees produce tons of fruit in the fall that is enjoyed by children and adults.
The famous early American explorer, William Bartram, traveling through Georgia in 1793 wrote: "I saw big and tall trees of Nyssa Ogeechee growing on the banks of the river, no tree exhibits a more desirable look than this, in the autumn when the fruit is ripe, and the tree is stripped of their leaves, because then they are as red as scarlet, with its fruit that is that color too. Is of the form, but larger than olive oil, which contains a juice nice acid. The northernmost settlement of this tree is unknown, is in the great Ogeechee River, where they are called Ogeechee Limes, and are being used at times in their "place.

Many locals prefer to gather fruits like lemons begin to change color, are much like Green Nagami 'kumquats in appearance and size. Trees should be planted in partial shade or full sun and require frequent irrigation for maximum production, however, does not require fertilization and control Pests and diseases are not a problem.
