How pure is distilled water depends on why you are asking. For applications industrial, is perfect. For drinking, a distilled pure water solution is not indicated.
Distillation is the oldest technology of purification everything. It has been used for thousands of years, although the original application was to increase the alcohol content of drinks.
It became popular with apothecaries, because they realized that particles in groundwater can affect the performance of their herbs. It is still used by pharmaceutical companies for the same reason.

Disadvantages of Distilled Water - What are they?
First, the systems are expensive to buy. If they were very effective, it would not be a problem, but can not be considered a solution of pure drinking water.
