Understanding Basic Car Wheel Drive
A drive system of the wheel is a combination of simple components that helps and supports the movement wheel in a car. The first wheel drive system is as old as the first car itself. Over the years, cars have become more complex machines, so you have all-wheel drive systems grown in sophistication to the point of being identified as an individual science in car engineering. This has resulted in each type Single-wheel drive system that is identified by a different name and a classification based on its essential characteristics.
On this classification most basic of automobile drive systems based on that set of wheels (front or rear) drives. As confusing as the terms of front-wheel drive rear-drive a car that looks, the basic concept behind them is quite simple.
Here is a brief introduction of the two types of systems traction:
Front Wheel Drive (FWD)
In a front-wheel drive, transmission system is connected only the two front wheels of the car. All power generated by the motor is used to drive only these two front wheels. The rear wheels act as dummies on the its only purpose is to support the rear of the car and just roll around to keep the car moving forward as the engine forces the front wheels to rotate. In a FWD car, the entire drive mechanism including the engine and car transmission systems is in the front of the car. Most cars in India come with a front-wheel drive configuration due to its simple structure and low cost mounting.
Rear-wheel drive (RWD)
A rear-wheel drive system is the opposite of front wheel drive. In this type of transmission system engine and transmission drive the rear wheels of the car instead of the two front wheels. Therefore, when a driver presses the accelerator, the rear wheels are made to move by using engine power. With the exception of some cars, the engine in a rear-drive car is in the front of the car also but the transmission system is connected to the rear wheels. This type of drive system is mostly used in racing cars and performance cars that can accelerate better on dry roads.
As can be clearly interpreted, each transmission systems over the wheel has its advantages and disadvantages of their own. There have been many debates about what is best. It does not mean they are not existing now, but rear-drive cars are more common in the past. In the decade 1980, front-drive cars began to gain popularity and soon they were in the majority of the passenger cars. Today, the car model line of many manufacturers include several with FWD and a few rear-wheel drive.
Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of each system drive:
Advantages of the front wheel on rear wheels
The following are not very FWDs expensive and can be easily installed in a car, but for rear-wheel drive production and assembly is expensive.
Designers • the task of updating a car model can easily locate other parts under the car, like brake lines, fuel lines and exhaust system while the traction back has a complex structure.
• The weight of a front-drive configuration is comparatively smaller than a RWD. The reduced weight of a car fuel economy benefits and enables better braking.

Advantages of rear wheels on front-wheel drive
• In a rear-wheel drive system, as some of the mechanical parts are removed from the front of the car and moved to rear weight distribution is better between the two ends of the car. This allows for improved handling. FWD provides comparatively less management.
• The Making use of the rear tires for traction acceleration and taking over of the front and drivers accelerating around a corner obtain a better lateral grip. In the case of FWD the road grip of the rear tires is reduced.
