Exposure to carbon monoxide in cigarettes: a reason to quit smoking
Smoking is an addictive and dangerous habit that go to millions of Americans trying to quit smoking every day. Thanks to the efforts of science, much more is now known about the dangers of smoking than ever before. Increased publicity has led to better education of the general public about the dangers of cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, although many smokers know that smoking can cause lung disease and cancer, few are aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is found in every cigarette causing a threat legitimate health of a person. Any person who smokes, regardless of frequency, you should know about carbon monoxide and how it affects the body when inhaled.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is known as the murderer silent because it is colorless and odorless and thus virtually impossible for a human to detect. The Symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure are typically seemingly harmless, which is why detection of CO poisoning often comes too later. In the body of a smoker, the blocks of the CO absorption of oxygen into the bloodstream from the lungs. This process has the effect of blood poisoning red in a way that prevents them from carrying oxygen. When body tissues do not get a steady and adequate supply of oxygen, they cease to function.
From Just as the tube of a caboose releases CO, so does a lit cigarette when a smoker. Studies have indicated that a CO molecule more closely resembles a hemoglobin molecule of oxygen. This means that emissions of CO from cigarettes replaces oxygen in the blood. When this happens it is difficult for cells red blood to do its work and carry oxygen throughout the body. Research has shown that a person who smokes a pack of cigarettes in a period of 8 hours see their blood CO saturation place between 7 and 15 percent, which reduces the availability of oxygen in the body. This seems especially dangerous when one considers that the rate normal CO in the blood is between 0 and 8 parts per million.
In comparison to most cases of carbon monoxide exposure, smoking seems to be the lesser threat. Cigarette smoking does not usually create carbon monoxide levels that pose an imminent threat, however, is not to say that the body do not suffer from exposure to CO from cigarettes. Immediate effect, the carbon monoxide in cigarettes can cause shortness of breath and increased heart rate. Over time, increases the risk of smoking and prolonged exposure to CO, even at low concentrations can lead to heart disease. In addition, emissions CO in cigarettes also contributes to the accumulation of fat in artery walls. The buildup is potentially dangerous and often the cause of failure heart.
Many dangers associated with smoking and unfortunately, many people do not realize that carbon monoxide exposure is one of them. Although levels of carbon monoxide caused by cigarettes are relatively low, there are still some risks in the short and long term that should be recognized. Carbon Monoxide on cigarettes is one more reason why smoking is a habit to kick!
