A road trip through the mountains
From the mountains of North Georgia is a type of holiday that few think to do in these days, called the tour. Real South Road Trail is such a driving holiday. Located in the southern Appalachians is a path through 13 counties and four states (including Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina). It is a collaboration of all the Chambers of Commerce, state boards of tourism, and retailers in the area.
Through a map of the region (available by requesting a brochure) road trip takes place before you can pick and choose where they want to go. Along the route is housing (including rental of the cabin, bed & breakfasts and motels), restaurants, shops, attractions, museums, state parks, hiking trails, rafting adventures, and kayaking. The beauty of this type of holiday is its ability to be spontaneous, but still maintain a road.
What can you expect to see in the South Road highways? Let's take a look:
The Gateway to the Alpine Route is Helena, located in Helen, GA and a recreation of an old German city. As expected, show a fun-loving annual Oktoberfest (Walhalla South Carolina also does so, and are also on the way). Although not October, Helen has a lot of restaurants and shops and some experience of family fun activities.
Blue Ridge, GA is well known for its beautiful region ... but did you know about the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway? You can pull your car over and let someone else take you on a locomotive in the historic and Railline north of Marietta Georgia. The trip takes about three hours, but stops at the center of the picturesque town of McCaysville, GA.
If lakes are your thing, you can always travel to along Lake Blue Ridge or Lake Chatuge. Along the lake Chatuge The Ridges Resort & Club is a luxury resort in Hiawasee, GA. It has 5 restaurants, golf Golf, walking paths, marinas, and more. Spend a few days there and head back on the road for their next destination.
If rafting is your thing, there are plenty of opportunities to do so in the South Road highways including Ocoee River in Tennessee, the Chattooga River in Georgia and South Carolina Nantahala. In order to begin the whitewater rafting adventure, see the website or brochure to see where are these places along your route.
For a visit little downtime of the many wineries and vineyards along the way ... or you could make your adventure all highways south of a wine tasting (do not worry, there are plenty of accommodations near the vineyards!). You could start in Georgia Habersham Vineyards and Crane Creek Vineyards and then head to North Carolina to visit the Valley Vineyard in Cherokee County and passing through a micro-cell picturesque winery called Bodegas also found in Cherokee County.
I've hardly scratched the surface throughout South Camino Real Trails cover. There is horseback riding, hiking, antiques, rural tourism (such as farms and orchards), marine, fishing and golf. And all along the way so no matter where it starts and ends, there is something to do along the way.
