Lowrider Motorcycle Mania
The lowrider bike craze sweeping the urban United States is energizing the creative impulses of young people adults, because they express their personality in comfortable bike.
I was only a toddler at the end of 1960, when the TV show The Munsters was in the air on Prime Time TV, young enough to feel that Eddie Munster (the werewolf son) was my favorite character in the series. I do not remember riding it turned "Schwinn Stingray", which apparently made lowrider bike for the first time on television, and that started the craze for the lowriders during the late 60 and 70.
I do remember I wanted to sleep in a dresser drawer as he did - I felt it would be nice and comfortable!
What most I remember on the show, in the technology department, was driving the car - the converted hearse. Now that was a car!
Anyway, that's Just a little historical interest. Most kids today have never heard of the Munsters - or if they have made the new version in the decade 1980 that he had nothing of the charm of the original - give me Fred Gwynne, Yvonne DeCarlo and Al Lewis any day of the week!
There was a TV program brought the lowrider back into favor in the late 1980s, however, but merely concluded creativity of people in the Chicano barrios of Los Angeles, began exercising their creativity to deceive their bikes with chrome, paint, and all kinds of accessories. The crowd caught and has spread through urban areas around the United States.
Lowrider bikes are not built for speed - they are built for quiet walks along the beach (hence the fat tires) or the neighborhood. The pilots want to "see and be seen in style."
Lowriders are generally regarded as one of the most comfortable of bikes. The apehanger "extend to the handlebars so high that drivers are necessarily obliged to sit up straight - reducing back strain which is a major causes of unrest in cycling. The tires are padded, the seat, either banana or some other form, are spacious and comfortable. Most of them only have a speed and a simple mountain break, so do not break down so often.
With materials of the new space age bike that are made, these bikes are not as heavy as you might think, so if you're thinking of getting a new bike, and like to enjoy their creativity, it is possible want to consider obtaining a lowrider. (Even if you do not want to trick out, or pimp "that" as the slang goes, remains a classic retro design and a fun ride.)
But if you want to decorate (a term I prefer to use "pimp" frankly, as I would hope that word that has unpleasant connotations) there are plenty of stores, both brick and mortar and online, where you can buy almost any accessory you can imagine - from gold mirrors and chrome rims and spokes, to hand painted murals on the frame, the rows of mirrors on each side, for a spare tire mounted baby's back!
