Head to toe. Dressing for success in your job interview pharmaceutical sales.
Pharmaceutical companies are known for their appearance conservative businessman. Many representatives who have been with us since the 1980s will tell you that the dress code was once so strict, it was almost a uniform! Well, times have changed somewhat but the basics are the same. Ladies first - here is what is expected of you in an interview.
Ladies
* Dress conservatively (OK pantsuit) black, navy, charcoal gray or similar in color. Pinstripes are acceptable. A light colored blouse or white conservative is the more appropriate. * Take it easy on the makeup and hair. Think of the church, not the date. * Nails should be well kept clear and polished. Drug representatives use their hands to show and pointing out all the time. A good interviewer will notice. * Socks or no? It is the great debate. If you can get a professional looking, conservative without them. . . go for it. If not, or not sure. . . play it safe and use them.
* Shoes should be low to medium heel (and should be comfortable enough to walk in them normally). Many say closed toe is the best. I say use the common sense and if an open toe look professional, you can take out. * Skip the perfume. Remember, there is an interview of a date. You want the interviewer will remember what you say and how you carry yourself, not what is good (or irresistible) that smelled.
Gentlemen
* Navy 100% wool conservative, black or charcoal gray suit. Again, lines are acceptable. 100% cotton shirt with heavy starch will will look like a million dollars. * Go for a bond that refuses to be dated. In other words, strong ties are always in. So are large alternating stripes in the deepest shadows of the primary colors. I am a big fan of the deep red ribbons for interviews (Red is said to be a "power" of color). * The Shoes should be flat lace and must be polished to Forrest Gump. * Nails are important to you too. Clipped, clean, neat, cuticles to back, polished, and ready for action. * If you have had a beard or mustache for 20 years and I know how to take care of it, then it's probably OK to keep same. Otherwise, you must have a clean shave. You must have a fresh haircut too. * I do not care if you paid $ 6,000 for a bottle of cologne, save for the afterparty (the party after being hired, that is).
A few things must be able to go without saying - but can not.
* Gum sweet or not. I know you want to have fresh breath. Take a bottle of mouthwash and rinse before entering. Candy and gum can make you look unprofessional in an instant. Do not go there. * Leave Viagra (R) tie you bought at the Niagara Falls homemade gifts. I know you think it would be nice and catchy. Let your professionalism and knowledge of the industry rather than sit down and talk. * Do not carry a backpack or purse. Some say that even should carry a briefcase. I say it depends on you. If you has enough to fill a nice briefcase, carry it. If you can handle everything without him, then bound folio beautiful skin will work fine.
The bottom line is, you're a professional. If there is any question that is, to err on the conservative side. As I said before the ladies, "the church, no date." Arriving for an interview, you will be surprised how many people did not read an article like this. You'll look like a superstar immediately when the man next to you in the waiting room (your competition) is wearing his brand new suit with a pair of Dr. Martens (R).
