Doing an Ironman
So you think you can become one of the 1/1000th of 1% of the world that can say they have gone and completed an Ironman? It is quite an achievement to either swim 2.2 miles, bike 112 or run a marathon or 26.2 miles - but to do everything in a row in one day?! Some argue that this is on the verge of psychotics;) Suffice it to say, I'm one of those psychotic people and perhaps give you some inspiration that this "crazy" triathlon accomplishment that may be a objective in his own life, I could not swim 10meters let alone 2.2 miles, when I enrolled in my first Ironman.
With the right mindset and dedication, in fact it is possible to squeeze in your workout, your job, your social life, his clothes, his naptime, etc etc etc - but it comes down to how badly you want. The triathlon is growing at an alarming rate, it seems that a lot of people are looking for a new challenge beyond making a 5 km or 10 km or marathon. I was in the same boat, having done a few marathon, I figured what other endurance events may subject me and doing an Ironman seemed about right ... haha, I do not I recommend doing exactly as his first Ironman triathlon, or try to recommend an iron distance triathlon without knowing how to swim - but if you want incentive to learn and a greater incentive to push to the limit of endurance - by all means;)
Of course, most people start doing a sprint distance triathlon or even an Olympic distance, as they are not so daunting. Some are even in an enclosed space and has the luxury of swimming in a heated semi-front a cold lake (at least where I am). You will not be achieved on the bike a timeline of the trial and I've seen people do in triathlon races mountain biking, and even a unicycle! Now that is crazy.
In any case, the point is, the sport of triathlon is not as "elite" like many people do it to be. Is supposed to be fun, it's meant to be a challenge, and there really is no better feeling than crossing the finish line for his sports career first whether it is a short sprint, or your first Ironman.
