<p>The three foot law is a great idea a 5 foot law would be even better. Even if the people say the law is unenforceable, it does give drivers a guideline to use when they pass a cyclist. I think every state should have a law like this.</p>

Bike Parking Lot, With Attendant, Is Planned for Midtown - New York Times via kwout

Maybe it&#8217;s because I don&#8217;t live in NY but I&#8217;m not really sure that I&#8217;d want to pay for a regular bike parking space. I haven&#8217;t had any trouble just locking my bike to lamp posts etc.

<p>It&#8217;s nice to see a city that is actively trying to increase <a href="http://www.portlandonline.com/transportation/index.cfm?c=eghbh">bike safety</a>. Even if they have to rip their ideas off of the Netherlands.</p>

<strong>What is a bike box?</strong><br />
The bike box is an intersection safety design to prevent bicycle/car collisions, especially those between drivers turning right and bicyclists going straight. It is a green box on the road with a white bicycle symbol inside. It includes green bicycle lanes approaching and leading from the box.</p>
<p><strong>Why are bike boxes being installed?</strong><br />
The main goal is to prevent collisions between motorists turning right and cyclists going straight. It&#8217;s all about visibility and awareness. At a red light, cyclists are more visible to motorists by being in front of them. At a green light, the green bike lane through the intersection reminds motorists and cyclists to watch for each other.

I&#8217;m not against golf but I do think it&#8217;s probably in the best of the interest of a business to replace a less active sport like golf with a good old fashioned cardio sport like cycling.

<p>It&#8217;s great to see that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadricycle">quadricycles</a> are as old as bicycles. But it&#8217;s sad that all of these forms of transportation were quickly taken over by cars. I wonder what the smog / pollution situation would be like if bikes had held out as strong form or transportation in the US. I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s to far fetched to think that bikes could have held on  as a strong commuting option if bike lanes were developed as roads specifically designed for cars were.</p>

Even though this guy looks like he&#8217;s riding somewhere in Europe I think the grid lock that he deals with is similar to the US.</p>
<p>I would think that the bikes are faster than cars theory only works in cities that aren&#8217;t in china or india&#8230;</p>
