Management of adult ADD is like riding a bike

There will certainly be felt at least a bit of overwhelm as summer is coming to an end. It's back to school, back to the big projects at work, and back to life as we know it. And, I dare say, stores have begun to burst your holiday merchandise! Talk about pressure!
Fall is quite possibly the most stressful time of year for adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). You may even find yourself escaping ADD management routines, structure and systems that you previously created.
I've been listening to a lot of customers who are getting themselves down, because the transition from summer to fall has been more difficult than expected.
With this in mind I would like to offer the following reminder: Management of adults with ADD is like riding a bicycle.
Remember when you learned to ride a bike?
It is likely that began with a tricycle when you were very young. At some point, you got the coveted two-wheeler with training wheels.
And finally came the day when your parents told you it was time to take the training wheels. Emotion and joy came as a sunny spring day came and you knew it was your time to shine ... to be a "big kid."
It is likely who resented the adult who clung to the back of the bike as you pedal began what would become his bike ride for the first time without training wheels.
But what happened when the adult was released and left while riding on your own?
Fell.
Splat! Do more of its side. You thought you could do it, but it was balancing on two wheels is much more difficult than balancing on four.
Such time I cried. Perhaps skinned knee or elbow. Maybe you've found your little car completely disappointed and frustrated by what you thought you could do without effort.
But no matter how you felt, who stood up and turned on a bicycle. Perhaps now, and perhaps not until a week later. But you go back to the bike. You practice.
You fell many times, but you kept getting back on that bike, because I knew the only way in which he ever learn to ride a bike was to keep back on him.
And now, as an adult, you know how to ride a bicycle. You can not do very often, and you may fall from time to time, but you know how to ride a bicycle.
So what makes you think that the management of AD is different to ride a bike?
What makes you think that the time for your mind to something, you can immediately achieve?
Organization management time, better focus and concentration, emotional regulation ... all require practice. They require extra effort in times of overflow, as which we are all experiencing right now as the decline of life at full speed.
Learning to cope with ADD is like learning to ride a bike. Expect a learning curve. Expect a good number of falls. Expect a hard time finding balance. And be sure that one of these days of AD management is second nature.
Until then, get off at yourself when you fall. No matter how bad things seem to go, no matter how many times you fall, always get back on the bike.
