what is a good gear ratio single speed?

I am thinking of buying a new chain ring to convert my single speed bike. I know most are about 16 gears have teeth. is a chain of 32 or 33 teeth ring good for a single speed?

Judging by the question he asked yesterday'm assuming this is a mountain bike and a BMX, then a ring of 32 to 34t is a good choice. Without knowing the type of terrain riding my guess would be to start with a reversal of 16 tons. If you have a lot of steep climbing would get a 17 or 18 t. EDIT: With the low cost of gear rear would be a good idea to have a 16, 17, 18 and perhaps even 20 if you follow some trails that have some really nasty long climbs. Remember there is no shame up a steep ascent of a SS.
