Fixed Gear Bike
how do I convert a multi speed bike into a fixed gear bike?
I am new to road bikes and dont know anything about them (excpet how to ride them). I have a Scwinn le tour 3 bike that I would like to convert it into a fixed gear bike with a flip-flop back wheel so I can coast when I get tired. I checked online how to convert it but it seems really complicated and expensive. can any one give me specific directions onto how to do this? or can point me out to a site that has simpler directions. ( if you live in the 408 area I will pay you to teach me!)

First, strip the bike of the shifters and deraiulers.
2. Remove whichever chainrings up front that you don't want to use(I kept the middle), you will need shorter chainring bolts that you can buy from your bike store. If it is an old 1piece(meaning you can't remove any chainrings, you will need a new crankset.
3. Buy a flip-flop wheel off of ebay or an online retailer. You can find them for around $100. Since it is an older bike, make sure the spacing is going to work.
4. Buy a new shorter chain and remove links as necessary to have good chain tension. If you have verticle dropouts on the back you will also need a chain tensioner.
That is a pretty quick and crude way that should get the job done.
