Kid Bike Ride

I participate in a bike ride ... How do I prepare?
I would like to start riding a bike ... and ultimately participate in a bike ride. I've never done anything like this before and have no Riden a bike since I was a child. I know there will be plenty of time put into the preparation of a ride. But where should I even start? What kind of bike is good for this type of thing? Any advice or suggestions? HELP! =)
The best bike for an entry level bike is not the same as for a serious cyclist road or trail. It is more like what a traveler in the city ride. "City" or "hybrid" - better way to recognize is, they make you feel more or less like a person leaning forward in a chair to listen to an interesting conversation, if not almost flat on your stomach. You can put a tall stem (handlebar holder) and upright handlebars on a road bike but will not make the road bike handle well, and you do not feel comfortable. Some modern city bikes are heavy (especially in a compromise solution for a very low pass-through) and never really group rides bicycles for longer. I like the kind of handlebar mustache, so my arms and hands are comfortable. Leave your hand in an "exploitation of the bars" The position on the imaginary handlebar in front of you, and hold the position of a time, allowing your hands to adjust to what is comfortable. There are also cruise ships and semi-recumbent bikes that let you sit waaaay back, but often do not show well, and not always use their leg power as well. Buy only if you are scared on a bike, and want to be able to put your feet flat on both sides, while it was stopped. A cheap bike, a mountain of age (no need to shock - are bad for the first time in the mountains cheap, old bikes) will also do, for starters. Find a bike shop first, a place to repair bicycles. Ask them if they know anyone with some cheap used bike, or find out if it will help to fix something you find at goodwill. After a couple of months, you will make a better choice of how you want while sitting on a bicycle, and can be updated. Aluminum bicycles can not be fixed if they get bent or dented. A good steel bike can be as light as an aluminum bike. All material is fine to start. Internal hubs are infallible, low maintenance, but hard to find. If your area is not mountainous, a 5-speed or three-speed (internal or regular) or child 10 - or 12-speed is fine for finding a comfortable position. Chain and gears and brakes must be in good shape, or be miserable and not to walk or ride and be dangerous. "Stand on the height" is not a useful measure for serious cyclists who want a geometry that fits perfectly proportions. For those of us want not only hit our "private bits" on the top tube is a very useful - it means it sounds. When the pedal, you want leg to be extended almost all the way at the bottom of the race, and you do not want your knees past horizontal at the top of the race. Otherwise, you can give you major knee problems. The seat tube that normally allows a lot of height adjustment, but it is necessary to verify that you can get proper seat height. Most new riders buy plane tickets that seem pillows for the first five minutes, but may become irritated or very bad press after an hour, making them useless when you start to walk. If you have a bike shop near you, with a stationary bike, go with normal pants or short, and test ride 6 or 7 different saddles of their "cheap" bin. Some will know in 3 minutes and it was seriously affected. Some appear to be work well, but ... not good. Over time, it is one that looks good that at least 20 minutes. The bonus, you will get used to turn their legs in a circle a good time, you can practice changing, and you can see how he likes to sit on the instructor while you pick your seat! There are some different rules as to mix and match the pieces, but if you stick with bicycles and parts of the past 15 years, and avoid a lot of high quality, overpriced, gimmicky things you do not know enough about the purchase, however, most will be able to combine things like: handlebars to fit your hands, trim to fit the bottom, bike that fits your size. Also mention a small motorcycle wheels. Unlike the trick bikes, there are some other very small wheeled bicycles that are actually quite good for riding 50 miles or more. The advantages are portability, maneuverability, and a low step height, so you can get on and off easily. Think Dahon, Downtube, again, even if ultimately we hope to-day road bike tours of several, I would not start on a road bike, unless was a confident pilot in his youth, and you have a friend about your size, you are willing to lend his bike. It also would not pay much and stay with a bike that fits your mental image of "you as a driver, but not your actual body. You do not want a little woman "(which are cool, but not a beginner bike). Pass under $ 150 on a used bike (plus a seat and handlebars that you really like, and new brake pads, and a bit of lubricant chain). Later, spend the $ $ $. Town! Lights! Find your local group defense of the bike, or coffee shop / bike shop riders. Ask the riders on their bicycles in the rack. Sidewalks are safer than the streets (roads). HAVE FUN!
