Long Sleeve Bike

Help your child with sensory issues learn to ride a bike
Bicycling is a great form of exercise and transportation, providing child a sense of independence. Children with sensory issues often need extra help to learn to be comfortable cycling. Part of his struggle with the ride on two wheels is the difficulty of planning and speed when moving while on a bike to be unstable control.
1. Pick the bike. Encourage your child to start early to ride a tricycle to start building skills in bicycle, and then invest in a small, low-to the land of two-wheelers with training wheels. Both sexes can do better starting with the girl "bike" with a decreased Grab Bar, which makes it easy to mount and dismount. In addition, wider tires are easier to balance on which the thinnest, racing tires.
2. Adjust the bicycle to facilitate their learning. Make sure the seat is large enough for her and to consider the replacement of one or more wider seats (the seats can be sold separately). Adjustment the seat of the texture in your case, with a nylon cover, or a towel tied to the seat, if this will make it easy for you to feel under your seat and feel more secure.
The bikes are more comfortable to ride for long when the seat is adjusted so that when the rider is seated, the balls their feet touch the ground. However, at the beginning of learning to ride and feel confident on a bicycle, a child may need to lower the seat so your feet are flat on the floor when sitting. You may want to remove the pedals, while the practice is pushed with his feet while sitting, and balance.
3. Break the skill into steps. Having drive herself to the feet, then lift up and try to balance the bike is moving, and stop herself with the hand brakes just before putting their feet down. In this way, you learn to balance, then use the brakes, then add in the path of pedaling.
You can try to place your child on the bike on top of a slope cut, very soft. Keep the seat and one side of the handlebars while surfing the slope so that it can feel your feet on the pedals while moving.
4. Try training wheels. After the child is comfortable with training wheels, change the position of the training wheels to be slightly off the ground. You can encourage your child to hear the sound of the training wheels hit the pavement and the bike riding practice trying not to "make the sound", which means that is not based on training wheels. As is increasingly competent, the training wheels move higher so that he is even more dependent on their sense of balance.
5. Protect from injury. Encourage your child to wear long sleeves and pants and even protective when learning to walk whether to tolerate these garments, thereby reducing the impact if it falls and protect them from being discouraged. Practice open a large lot with few distractions visual. Also, make sure your bike helmet fits perfectly. Use the back adhesive pads to adjust the fit if necessary. The helmet should not fall backward or forward or swish from side to side while the child is riding, and the chin strap should lock in place. You may want to desensitize the child's head or vibration massage before putting the helmet on it.
6. Be patient and encouraging. Teach your child to travel is a learning process. Challenge her to press a little at a time that is mounted so as not to feel overwhelmed and not travel completely. Be sure to hold his triumph when you first moving two-wheel on their own, and remember how proud I feel that she persevered in this difficult task.
